Sentences
Introduction
There are 4 types of
sentences you can use
in your writing.
Question Time
Do you know what a
sentence needs to be
complete?
Subject
A person or thing that
is being discussed or
described.
Verb
A word used to describe
an action, state, or
occurrence.
Example
Jennifer walked to
the store.
Example
The subject is
“Jennifer” and the
verb is “walked”
Example
After lunch, I will
call my mother.
Example
The subject is “I”
while the verb is
“call”
Types of
Sentences

Declarative
1. Ends with a period
2. Tells the reader something
3. Example - Mary has a cat.
#2 - Imperative

1. Gives a command (tells someone


to do something)
2. Example - Give me that ball.
#3 -
Exclamatory
1. Shows great emotion
2. Uses an exclamation point
3. Example - This day is wonderful!
#4 -
Interrogative
1. Asks a question
2. Ends with a question mark
3. Example - Do you have a pencil?
