Foundation of Marriage
E -12 Module 7
oOBJECTIVES

Explain the plan of God for male and female in the Scriptural foundation when
He created them.

– Identify ways on how to live the Covenant of love as the image / symbol of
God the Creator’s absolute and unfailing love

Give thanks to God for creating us into His image and likeness, through prayers
and the Eucharist.
Activity 1:
Directions: Read the poem and answer the following questions.

o Jewish Culture
- the woman is treated as a thing, not a person.
o Greek Culture
- the woman is to run the home and care for the children, while the man
finds his pleasure elsewhere.

- the woman functions as a “slave” at home

B. God created “The Male and “The Female” in His image and Likeness.

God ultimately created them like no other creation, they were after his
likeness

Remember marriage was not evented by man but was created and
instituted by God.

B. God’s Plan for Marriage is one man for one woman (Gen.2: 24-
25)

 Marriage is not some kind of experimental program whereby you try


different partners until you decide which one you like the best.

God’s plan is for one man to love one woman. The only exception is
through the death of one of the partners and then you are free to remarry.

In order to experience God’s plan, He gives some very
clear instruction.
1. We are to leave our mother and father.
2. We are to cleave unto each other.
3. We are to become one flesh.

commandments and the law.

more than a betrothal.

"husband's brother")
is a type of marriage in which the brother of a
deceased man is obliged to marry his brother's widow.

the practice or custom of having more than one
wife or husband at the same time.

GOD MADE MARRIAGE TO LAST FOR LIFE
A. God made the marital union of one man and one
woman to last for their whole life
1. Jesus affirms to the Old Testament teaching of God’s
ideal for marriage.
2. He explains that divorce was granted by Moses as a
concession because of the hardness of the hearts of men.

B. God’s grace is available to whoever seek it to stay
married or to live as a single person.
1. Here is Gods intent: If you will marry by the will of
God, then you can remain married by the grace of God
2. God does not want us to be miserable in our marriage
but He wants us to be reasonable to ley Him work in our
lives and solve our problems.

C. Marriage partnership calls for a covenant of
submission to yield your lives to each other and to God.
1. Human love alone is not sufficient, but must also
have God’s love to make this marriage covenant possible.
2. This is a call to mutual submission which brings
about a covenant with neither one ruling over the other.

- Learn to live consistently

- Pray together, love together
- Support each other completely

MARRIAGE
o A valid catholic marriage results from four elements
- the two persons are free to marry
- they freely exchange their consent
- in consenting to marry, they have the
intention to marry for life, to be faithful to one another
and to be open to children
- their consent is given in the presence of two
witnesses and before a properly authorized Church
minister.
