Informal Fallacy exercise

• The Apple Daily reported that three SPACE students were expelled for
cheating. SPACE is indeed a place for cheaters.

• Hasty generalization
• No one has ever been able to prove that a flying dinosaur did exist.
Therefore, we must conclude that there was no such thing as a flying
dinosaur.

• Appeal to ignorance
• Good steaks are rare these days, so don’t order yours well done.

• “How can you argue your case for vegetarianism when you are
enjoying that steak?”

• Argument against the person

• The end (purpose) of a thing is its perfection;
• death is the end of life; hence,
• death is the perfection of life.

• I know that she does not dislike me C because she said that before.
And I know that she was not lying because she would not lie to the
person whom she liked P.

• Begging q
• Watching violent movies would not increase the violent behavior of
the children because no evidence supports that watching violent
movies would increase the violent behavior of the children.

• Appeal to ignorance
• You said that this novel is bad. But could you write a good one? If you
couldn’t, please don’t criticize.

• Argument against the person

• Mother: You should stop smoking. It's harmful to your health.
• Daughter: Why should I listen to you? You started smoking when you
were 16!

• Argument against the person

• Killing people is morally wrong. Why? It is because killing people is
against the law. But why we can’t do something violates the law. It is
because violating the law is morally wrong.

• Begging question
• It is immoral to do abortion since it is not natural.

• Naturalistic fallacy
• A rooster is needed for the sun to rise

• False cause
• “I really shouldn’t eat this slice of pizza because if I do I’ll probably
lose all control and go off my diet, and then I’ll keep gaining weight
and eventually get diabetes”.

• Slippery slope
Human cannot live without the head.
The king is the head of the country.
So a country must have a king.
