Welded Joints

 The joints which are prepared by welding processes are known as welded
joints.
 Advantages of welded joints over riveted joints:
1. The welded joints provide high efficiency compared with riveted joints.
2. A welded joint has a great strength than the riveted joints.
3. It is easily possible to weld any part of a structure at any point. But riveting
requires enough clearance.
4. The process of making welding joints takes less time than the riveted joints.
5. Shape like cylindrical steel pipes can be easily welded. But they are
difficulty for riveting.
6. In welded connections, the tension members are not weakened as in the
case of riveted joints.
Fundamental types of welded joints
 There are five basic types of welded joints which are explained below:-
(1) Butt joints - used to join the ends of two pates
(2)Lap joints - used to join two overlapping plates
(3)Corner joints - used to weld the edges of two plates
(4)Edge joints - used to join two parallel pates
(5)T-joints - used to join two plates, the surfaces of which are at right angle to
each other.
