Overview of the male reproductive system

• The male reproductive system, being generally outside of the body, is

more obvious than the female reproductive system;
• there are, however, internal and external structures.
• They work in unison with other body systems (e.g. the
neuroendocrine system), make the hormones
• that are essential in biological development and sexual behaviour,
performance and actions .
• In male, these organs are also central in the function of the urinary
system.
• The major structures of the male reproductive system include:
• the external genitalia, incorporating the penis, scrotum,
• the testes and a number of ducts responsible for the transportation of the sperm
from the testes to the penis and outside the body;
• there are also two seminal vesicles, bulbourethral glands and the prostate gland.
• There are a number of functions that are associated with the male reproductive
system:
• To produce, maintain and transport the sperm (the male reproductive cells) and the
semen;
• to manufacture and secrete the male sex hormones.
• to eject sperm from the penis;
