Project budget is limited.
Outdoor units are forbidden to install
on the wall.
Outdoor units are installed on the
roof or ground together.
The distance between outdoor unit
and indoor unit is farther.
The numbers of rooms are larger.

2. FCU or AHU

For civil building, we should think about capacity more than air volume,
especially the visible capacity when we choose FCU or AHU.

The second step, we have to check if the air volume meet the quality demand
of the AC room.

2. FCU or AHU
For example:
An office, 20M2, layer height is 3M.
If use rough load calculation.
20*140=2800W
Air volume=room’s cubage*ventilation rate =20*3*6=360M3/H
Selection
2. FCU or AHU

We also have to make sure:

The installation method ---concealed or exposed

The direction of connected pipe ---left of right
The number of AC room---if the area of AC room is big, it’s better to choose more than
one unit which will do favor to reduce the noise
Selection

Modular chiller can be combined together to supply different cooling capacity .

 30KW unit, which can be combined together at most 16 units.
 65KW unit, which can be combined together at most 16 units.
 130KW unit, which can be combined together at most 8 units.
 200KW unit, which can be combined together at most 5 units.

Statistical the whole cooling load---Q

Select suitable same using ratio---for large of AC rooms, which is necessary to
consider the same using conditions, usually, we can select 70-80%
Select the capacity of modular chiller---Q*(70-80%)

For example:
A hotel, Q=500KW, consider the same using ratio of AC room,
(0.7-0.8)*500=350-400kW
Select modular chiller: 6 pcs 65KW

Electrical 2-way or 3-way valve

it can be used to control air temp. according to load. If room temp. is lower than set
temp. in summer, the valve will be off
Selection

Gas discharge valve

It can be used to remove the air in the pipe system. And usually it be installed on the
top point of close water system.
Selection

Check valve

It can be used to prevent the medium from flowing backwards. And usually it be
installed on the outlet pipe of pump

Y-shaped filter

It can be used to prevent the impurity from blocking the water pipes. And
usually it be installed on the inlet pipe of unit, such as chiller.

Water flow switch:

it can be used to protect the chiller, when it check the water flow rate is lower than
normal level, it will get the chiller stop work. And usually it be installed on the outlet

Expansion tank

Expansion tank

It can be used to avoid the volume changing because water expands with heat
and contracts with cold. And usually it’s location is 1-2m higher than the water

How to calculate the diameter of the water pipe?

1. The diameter of the pipe which is connected to the FCU or AHU should be the
same as the relevant unit’s.

2. Formula :
D=√ 4000Q/3.14V
Q(L/s) : water volume
D(mm) : inner diameter of water pipe
V(m/s) : assumed velocity of water

Step 4 The selection of auxiliary parts

How to select chilled water pump?

1. Water volume of pump---L

way1: L should be equal to 1.1-1.2 rated chilled water of chiller.(when single chiller
work ,the value is 1.1,when double chillers work, the value is 1.2)
Way2:L(m3/h)= Q(kW)/ ( 4.5~5 )℃ x1.163
2. Head of pump---1.1-1.2Hmax
Hmax =Δp1 + Δp2 + 0.05L ( 1+ K )
Δp1(mH2O):the water pressure drop of evaporator of chiller
Δp2(mH2O):the biggest water pressure drop of the water line of maximal resistance
0.05L:5mH2O per 100m water pipe
K:when the length of the water line of maximal resistance is long, k is 0.2-0.3;when it is
short, K is 0.4-0.6
Selection
Step 4 The selection of auxiliary parts

Step 4 The selection of auxiliary parts

For example :select head of chilled water pump

Δp2=4 (the biggest water pressure drop of the water line of maximal resistance)
0.05L=0.05*(15+2+10+15+8+8+1+1)*2=6
K=0.5
Hmax =Δp1 + Δp2 + 0.05L ( 1+ K ) =1.5+4+6(1+0.5)=14.5
Selection
Step 4 The selection of auxiliary parts
How to select expand water tank?
The size of water tank
kW is the unit for cooling capacity and L is the unit for G water flow in the formula counting the minimum
water flow.
Comfortable type air conditioner
G= cooling capacity×2.6L
Process cooling application conditioner
G= cooling capacity×7.4L
If the total water volume in the system is less than the required minimum volume, the additional water tank is
necessary in order to avoid the compressor On and Off frequently. The minimum size of the water tank is
calculated as:
Size of additional water tank (L)= minimum water volume(L) – Actual water volume (L).

The Interior Structure of the water tank
