RESPIRATION

STEPS OF INSPIRATION
Respiratory Centers send signals via Phrenic Nerves to diaphragm & External intercostals
muscles

Diaphragm & External intercostals muscles contract

Diaphragm moves downward and Ribs move upward & outward

Thorax Expand (Chest wall)

Intra-pleural pressure decreased & becomes more negative (-7.5cm of H2O)

STEPS OF INSPIRATION
Resp. Centers stop to send impulses to the diaphragm & intercostals muscles

Relaxation of Diaphragm & External intercostals muscles

Chest wall recoil inward

Intra-pleural pressure increased & comes to normal level (-5cm of H2O)

Decreased Trans-Pulmonary Pressure (+ 7.5 to 5 cm of H2O)
