 Problem Statement
• The state currently produces an average of about 82,000 tonnes
of milk a year, which is not sufficient and according to reports, it
needs to produce over 200 thousand tonnes of milk a year. So,
dairy farming should be encouraged as it is also a suitable farming
project in the wet land of the state.
• The fish or vegetable we consume everyday contains a lot of
harmful chemicals. When we integrate the farming with milch
cattle farm, we can raise the fish or vegetable organically without
chemicals as we can use the excreta as organic manure in the fish
farm benefiting our health.
• We have negligible organic fish production without the use of
chemical manures and very less of fish production in the state to
meet the market demand in the state.

 Solution
Cattle - Fish Integrated Farming System
Integrated cattle and fish farming is an ideal method for assured fish production in ponds. In
this technology, the fish crop is raised using the cattle on the pond embankment or any other
suitable site of the farm.
Health Management :
• Maintenance of hygiene in the cow shed is most important. Adopt preventive measures by
consulting veterinary expert against coccidiosis, parasitic infection, etc.
• Immunization : FMD vaccine, anthrax spore vaccine, haemorrhagic septicemia vaccine and
black quarter vaccine should be given in time. Consult veterinary expert for time schedule
and vaccination.
Fish Farming :
• In the pond, no chemical fertilization is required.
• Cow should be brought to the shed about 2 months prior to stocking of pond with
fish seed.
• Cow urine is led to soak pit and cow dung is allowed to fall in the pond water.
However, initially cow dung is cast all over the pond before stocking the pond with
fish seed. No feed except green fodder required for Grass carp is applied into the
pond.
