ABIDE IN CHRIST

The last of 7 Statement Jesus made about

Himself when He calls Himself I AM.
And the analogy He used is that
of the vineyard
Jesus using an analogy as something to compare
to teach about his relationship with us.
Jesus talk about the vinedresser which
he says is his Father.
The true vine which he says is Himself,
and he talks about the branches which he
says are the disciples.
And the fruit is what we produce
as His disciples
In the 8 verses, the word
FRUIT is used 6 times in the
passage. And the word ABIDE
is used 7 times. You can see that
fruiting and abiding are very
dominant in what Jesus is
teaching in this passage.
What Does It Mean to Abide?
It means to remain in place: to stay without departing. So our
Christian life is not in and out experience. Is not an on and off
experience. When we make a commitment with the Lord, we
stay with him.
It means to continue in place:
To endure and progress, grow. Is not just staying, but
growing, maturing and becoming better. To bear Christian
fruit therefore, we must abide in Christ. Verse 4, 5, suggest
two things. As we abide in Christ, but He also abides in us.
When we are in him, he is in us. Our
relationship with Christ therefore, is a two
way relationship.
I am in
My
Father,
and You
are in me,
and I am
in you
John 14:20
The first one is Christ in me – He shares in
our lives. Because of our union with Him,
He is present with us on earth.
Second, we are also in His life. Because of that
union, He empowers us to do what can do.
How do we
Abide in Christ?
There are four ways in which
we abide in Christ
By accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior. 1 John 4:15.
1 John 4:15
Whoever confesses that
Jesus is the Son of God,
God abides in him, and
he in God.
Accepting Jesus Christ is more than going to Church.
By allowing His teachings to settle in us, 1 John 2:24.
1 John 2:24
Therefore let that abide in you which you
heard from the beginning. If what you
heard from the beginning abides in
you, you also will abide in the Son and in
the Father.
Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is the
first, but the teachings of Christ must abide in us
By doing what He commanded us to do.
1 John 3:24.
1 John 3:24
Now he who keeps His commandments abides in
Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He
abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
If we keep his commandments then He abides
in us and we abide in Him.
A.Our lives are based on selfishness –
His life is based on selflessness
B.Our lives are based on taking – His
life is based on giving
C.Our lives are based on vengeance, his
life is based on forgiveness
D.Our lives are based on doing what
pleases us, - His life is based on “not
my will, but your will be done.”
But if he must live in us, then we must obey His
commandments. We live in obedient to His
commandment when we see him as our Master
and ourselves as slaves.
By walking and living in God’s Love. 1 John 4:16.
1 John 4:16
And we have known and believed the love that God
has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love
abides in God, and God in him.
Jesus taught that walking in love is the mark of
Christendom.
The life of a believer must be
characterized by love at all levels.

Two Things:

Jesus says, the father answers

prayer of those who are fruitful.

Matt. 7:8
For everyone who asks receives, and he
who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it
will be opened.

John 15:16
You did not choose Me, but I chose you
and appointed you that you should go and bear
fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that
whatever you ask the Father in My name He
may give you.
Two Things:

Mark 11:24
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you
ask when you pray, believe that you
receive them, and you will have them.
1
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide!
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
1
Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.
1
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy
victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me!.
