The Trashcan
Trashcan
What is it?
It is made up of two words:
“trash” and “can”
Trash: means something worth little or nothing as a junk,
rubbish

In terms of speech it’s Empty talk (non-sense), inferior or

worthless writing or artistic matter;

Simply put It is waste, something in a crumbled or broken

condition or mass; esp. debris from pruning or processing
plant material
In the personal sense it means A worthless person or (if in a
group) riffraffs
What is it?

“Can” means container or

receptacleraffs

So trashcan means a CONTAINER or

a RECEPTACLE for TRASH
A Trashcan is therefore a recep-
tacle for worthless things call it junk,
rubbish, worthless writing or artistic
matter, debris from pruning or proces-
sing plant material. It is a receptacle for
refuse.

It can be called wastebasket, refuse

or garbage can, compost bucket.
What is the nature of the trash?

The trash/waste . . .
Can be SOLID, LIQUID, OR GAS
Can be COLD, HOT OR SUPER
HOT
Can be POISONOUS OR NOT
POISONOUS
Can be SCENTY or ODOURLESS
The TRASHCAN occupies a very
important place in any healthy society
Functions of Trashcan?
To contain waste temporary until it can be
disposed of permanently.
To keep wastes and unwholesome things
out of sight to keep our surroundings
clean, fresh, and tidy.
Their presence makes hygiene a reality.
They make us presentable and happy and
comfortable to live with.
Because we have different wastes
or Trash we have different
trashcans oriented to the type of
waste or Trash
TYPES OF TRASHCANS

• Consequently they range

– from mobile to stationary
– from personal to public,
• from light weight to heavy weights
Examples:
Paper napkins, handkerchiefs, rags, mops,
mopping can, vacuum cleaners, paper baskets,
plastic baskets, plastic bags in airplanes,
specialized cans, specially made containers,
canisters for radioactive wastes,
Chamber pots, ash trays, sand boxes, pads of all
kinds, shapes, brands, and makes, diapers of all
kinds (pampers, the red cloth diaper or “amoase,”
etc), bibs, door mats, etc
kitchen sinks, Urinals, WCs, bathrooms and
washrooms in general.
We have dusters, air filters, water and oil filters
etc
TYPES
• From the ordinary Baskets to complex office
trashcans
• From manually operated to automatic ones
• From those that keep liquids to those that trap
gases and dust
• Some keep even explosives and radioactive
substances and radiations that might be lethal to
human life and leave our world unsafe to live in.
Qualities of the Trashcan

• Ability to contain trash

• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of the trash
• Accessible to all who needs its services. Yes it must be
handy.
• Be neat. Not an eyesore
• Easy to handle -- as portable as possible
• Be presentable (Must have aesthetic shape) esp. if it’s
to be used in offices and public places. Not an eyesore
or offensive to view. But eyeful—pleasant to look at.
• Be convenient
• Be harmless
When Should The Trashcan
Be Ready?

It should be ready
before the
production of the
trash
SPIRITUAL APPLICATION
Theological Significance

The “trashcan” concept is a very important

theme in theology.

In fact, the plan of redemption centers around

and in this concept. For without the spiritual
trashcan, all of us are and will be doomed to
hell.
Sin as a Spiritual Trash

• When Adam and Eve sinned

the most dangerous trash was
produced.
• It was most dangerous
because it was more than a
Radioactive trash.
NATURE OF SIN
Dangerous Spiritual Waste:
Beloved, in the universe nothing
is so dangerous as sin. So
infectious, so deadly, that its
nature and spread is described as
“a mystery”
Roy Gane likens it to “radioactive
waste” whose nature and spread
is not only deadly but persists and
lingers for a long time.
Dangerous Nature of Sin

Sin and death, represented by

ritual impurity, have spread to
each person (cf. Rom. 5:12).
Roy Gane The NIV Application Commentary:
Leviticus, Numbers (Grand Rapids, MI:
Zondervan, 2004), 279.

Innocent Animals Died for our sins
The Sinner confessed unto the victim and killed it himself to signify
ownership and responsibility for the sin.
These Holy purification
offerings [or sacrifi-
ces]absorbed sins and
impurities from them
[the offerers]. Gane, 279.
These rituals found fulfillment in our most
holy Purification Offering (John1:29) [THE
DIVINE TRASHCAN], who paradoxically
allowed sin and death to penetrate Him (2
Cor. 5:21) so that he can cleanse these evils
out of those who accept his sacrifice: “If
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
and will forgive us our sins and purify us
from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9,
emphasis added). [Gane, 279].
The value of animal sacrifice in the
Old Testament lie in the fact that
they were prophetic, pointing to
"the lamb of God, who takes away
the sins of the world" (John 1:29).
Hebrews explains that "it is
impossible that the blood of bulls
and goats should take away sins"
(Heb 10:4). Bacchiocchi, God’s Festivals 2, p. 132, 133
2 Corinthians 5:21

had no sin to be sin

we might become the
righteousness of God.

Forgiveness
Isaiah 53:3-6,
“He had no form or
comeliness that we should
look at him, and no beauty
that we should desire
Him. He was despised
and rejected by men; a
man of sorrows, and
acquainted with grief,
and as one from whom
men hide their faces he
was despised, and we
esteemed him not.”
Surely he has borne our
grief's and carried our
sorrows; yet we esteemed
him stricken, smitten by
God, and afflicted. But he
was wounded for our
transgressions, he was
bruised for our iniquities;
upon him was the
chastisement that made
us whole, and with stripes
we are healed.

Matthew 6:12

Forgive us our debts, as we

also have forgiven our
debtors.

Forgive us our sins, as we

NLT

have forgiven those who sin

against us.
Matthew 6:14, 15

For if you forgive men when they sin

against you, your heavenly Father will
also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men their
sins, your Father will not forgive your
sins.
FORGIVENESS: THE DOOR

The spirit of forgiveness is the door

into the kingdom of heaven. The
refusal to forgive others closes that
door in our faces. This is doubtless
the reason why many prayers are no
answered.
Taylor G. Bunch, The Prevailing Prayer (Washington DC. Review and
Herald, 1946), 68.

FORGIVENESS or GRACE
“There is no limit to the
forgiving grace of Him who
saves to the uttermost all
who come to Him in faith.
There should, therefore, be
no limit to our willingness
to forgive others.”
Prevailing Prayer, 71
To forgive is to have mercy
The fifth beatitude should be
written indelibly on every heart,
“Blessed are the merciful: for
they shall obtain mercy.” For
“forgiveness is like the
fragrance of the rose the
rises to bless the foot
that crushes it.”

On a hill far away stood an old
rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and
shame;
and I love that old cross where
the dearest and best

slain.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a
