INTRODUCTION

Radiant heating is a technology for heating

Indoor and outdoor areas. In radiant heating
System are temperature controlled surfaces
That exchange heat with their surrounding environment
through convection and radiation
In radiant heating system ,thermal radiation covers
more than 50% of heat exchange within the space.
What is radiant heating

 Radiant heating is a system in which heat is produced

and transferred underneath a home floors . The heat
rises from the floor upwards throughout the rest of
the house.
Types of radiant heating

There are two main types of radiant

heating system
1 Radiant floor heating
2 Electric radiant heating
3 Hydronic radiant heating
Radiant floor heating

There are two categories of installation for radiant floor

heating .
1. Wet installation
2. Dry installation
 In wet installation is most commonly used in ground
floor
 In dry installation is used in subfloor
Installation of radiant floor heating
 Here there are fie steps to the wet installation on aground
level
1. Excavate the area to be heated . This will be the sub-base.
2. Add a layer of insulation to create abase over which the
rest of the floor system will lay.
3. Add rebar to the space .this will add strength to the floor
system
4. Add plastic tubing , tying it to the rebar
for support.
5. Use concrete to create a slab foundation
for the floor .
When installing a radiant floor system on
the upper floor of a home ,the most
common method is called dry installation.
Which is a system that suspends the tubing
underneath the subfloor, between the
joists.
Hydronic radiant heating

Hydronic radiant heating is more efficient and

Popular form of radiant heat in widespread use .
Hydronic system feature corrosion- resistance polyethylene tube
that meet at the homes boiler and circulate hot water
throughout the structure .
The boiler itself controlled by homes thermostat , but newer
system typically have zoning valves that controlled water flow to
each room , allowing heat to be reduced or shut off in seldom –
used spaces without affecting other parts of the house.
Advantages of radiant heating system

1. Energy efficient
2. Quiet heating
3. Flexible fueling
4. Scalable
5. Save up to 25-40% energy
6. Eco friendly
7. Lower utility bills
Dis-advantages of radiant heating

1. Installation cost is very high

2. Risk of fire in electrical system
3. Difficult to access for repair
Electric Radiant Floor Heating

In electric heating cables are usually embedded in the in the

concrete and require some electrical skills to install.
Mats , however easily to install and wire. As the floor
temperature rises , the wire produce less heat.
Mats made for above the floor installation need a layer of
mortar for protection .
Before starting an installation , check with an electrician to be
sure your existing electrical system can handle the new circuit, if
it needs one . In general u will need b/w 8&12watt/square foot
of heated floor .
Installation steps
 In electric radiant heating some steps are involved
there are below
 Staple the mats in place
 Concrete the wires
 Install insulation
 Electric radiant heating installing above the subfloor
 Drill the holes for tubing
 Treads the tubing
 Fasten the dissipation plates .
Conclusion:

 The logical conclusion is that heat rises …. Radiant

energy is transfer is caused by a warm surface giving
up its heat to a cooler surface whenever there is a
temperature difference between two surfaces. Both
surface will attempt to equalize. Radiant energy
travel through space without heating the space itself.
