ASSIGNMENT
INTRODUCTION
O India known as the land of spirituality and philosophy, was the birthplace
of some religious, which even exist today in the world.
O The most dominant religion in India today is Hinduism. About 80% of
Indians are Hindus. Hinduism is a colorful religion with a vast gallery of
Gods and Goddesses. Hinduism is one of the ancient religions in the
world. It is supposed to have developed about 5000 years ago. Later on
in ancient period other religions developed in India.
O Around 500 BC two other religions developed in India, namely Buddhism
and Jainism. Today only about 0.5% of Indians are Jains and about 0.7%
are Buddhist.
O In Ancient times Jainism and Buddhism were very popular in India.
Indians who accepted Buddhist philosophy spread it not only within the
Indian sub-continent but also to kingdoms east and south of Indian.

 Introduction
O The name of the religion is Islam, which comes
from an Arabic root word meaning “peace” and
“submission”. Islam teaches that one can only find
peace in one’s life by submitting to almighty god
(Allah) in heart, soul and deed. The same Arabic
root word gives us “Salaam alaykum,” ( Peace be
with you”) the universal muslim greeting.
 Who is Muslim?
OA person who believe in and
consciously follows Islam is called
Muslim, also from the same root
word. So, the religion is called
“Islam” and a person who believes
in and follows it is a “Muslim”.

 Introduction
O There is only One God. He is the same God fro all people of
all religions.
O The soul goes through cycles of births and deaths before it
reaches the humans form.
O The true path to achieving salvation and merging with God
does not require renunciation of the world or celibacy, but
living life of a householder, earning a honest living and
avoiding worldly temptations and sins.
O Sikhism condemns blind rituals such as fasting, visiting
places of pilgrimage, superstitions, worship of the dead, idol
worship, etc.

 Introduction
O One of the oldest religion of India. We do not know
exactly when it was founded. The Jains themselves
say that Jainism has existed since eternity and it
had like the Jain universe no beginning and would
have no end. Most of the saints of Jainism
belonged to remote ages, millions and billions of
years age. However, for practical purposes we may
take Mahavira, their last great saint, as a historical
figure. He was a contemporary of the Buddha.

Buddhism
 Intorduction
O The Buddha was born as Siddhartha Gautama, a
price of the Sakya tribe of Nepal, in approximately
566 BC. When he was twenty-nine years old, he left
the comforts of his home of seek the meaning of
the suffering he saw around him. After six years of
arduous yogic training, he abandoned the was of
self mortification and instead sat in mindful
meditation beneath a bodhi tree.

O On the full moon of May, with the rising of the


morning star, Siddhartha Gautama became the
Buddha, the enlightened one.
O The Buddha wandered the plains of northeastern
India for 45 years more, teaching the path or Dharma
he had realized in that moment. Around him
developed a community or Sangha of monks and
later, nuns, drawn from every tribe caste, devoted to
practicing this path. In approximately 486 BC, at the
age 80, the Buddha died.
