Introduction : BIOMASS POWER
GENERATION
BIOMASS POWER GENERATION IS A PROCESS WHERE ENERGY IS PRODUCED BY
CONVERTING ORGANIC MATERIALS, SUCH AS WOOD, AGRICULTURAL RESIDUES,
ANIMAL WASTE, AND DEDICATED ENERGY CROPS, INTO ELECTRICITY OR HEAT.
THIS RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE HARNESSES THE ENERGY STORED IN
BIOLOGICAL MATERIALS THROUGH VARIOUS CONVERSION TECHNOLOGIES,
INCLUDING COMBUSTION, GASIFICATION, AND ANAEROBIC DIGESTION.

BIOGAS
Biogas a renewable fuel that's
produced when organic
matter, such as food or
animal waste, is broken down
by microorganisms in the
absence of oxygen. This
process is called anaerobic
digestion. For this to take
place, the waste material
needs to be enclosed in an
environment where there is
no oxygen.

Bio gas is produced by four steps.
• Hydrolysis- the first step in the conversion of
organic material to biogas. In this stage, certain • is acetogenesis fermented products by the use
bacteria break down organic polymers like of acetogenic bacteria are transformed to
carbohydrates into simple sugars so that the next acetate, CO 2 , and H 2 , especially fatty acids
group of bacteria can further process the material and alcohols. These bacteria are called
acetogens and are obligatory sources of H 2
• acidogenesis process, the biodegradable materials like
fats, protein, and bacteria are further decomposed by the
fermentation bacteria. As a result of the acidogenesis
process, volatile fatty acids, carbon dioxide, hydrogen
sulfide, and ammonia are produced.

Biomass combustion is the process of burning organic materials,
typically plant-based or animal-based, to produce heat or energy.
Biomass materials can include wood, agricultural residues, animal
waste, and other organic matter.
The stages of biomass combustion typically include drying, pyrolysis, gasification, and combustion.

combustion. Pyrolysis
• Combustion: The combustible gases and char are burned in the
presence of oxygen to release heat energy, which can be used for
heating or electricity generation.

• Gasification: The volatile gases produced during pyrolysis are converted into
combustible gases like carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
