MALAYSIAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT


- The position of Local Government in Malaysia is stated in the Federal Constitution.

- By virtue of items 4 and 5 of the Ninth Schedule, Local Government outside the
Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya is subject under the state
list.

- All Local Governments outside the Federal Territories are under exclusive jurisdiction
of the state governments.

- A Local Government is often viewed as an institution that provides urban services to


its local communities.

- In general, the Local Governments are responsible for public health and sanitization
such as provision and maintenance of public places and amenities, waste and rubbish
disposal, town planning and building control, social and economical development and
maintenance of all infrastructures in the local community areas.
