2. How much investment can be invested in tourism?
3. How many new job opportunities will be available?
4. How much labor force is absorted through the
opening of new employment opportunities?

To answer all the questions above, calculations are

based on statistical data using statistical methods.
WHAT IS STATISTICS?

 From the word status (Latin) or state (English) means ‘country’.

 The statistics are collection of information for benefit of the state (the
information is used to facilitate tax collection, mobilization of the people,
army and other purpose).
 Statistics is the science that studies or discussed and develops principles,
methods and procedures that need to be taken or used in order to: (1)
collect data; (2) compile and categorized data; (3) present data; (4)
analyzing data; (5) drawing conclusions; (6) making estimation; (7)
forecasting or prediction statistically.
STATICSTICS IN BUSINESS

 To summarize business
data
 To draw conclusion from
those data
 To make reliable forecasts
about business activities
 To improve business
processes

statistics can :
USAGE  Explain the relationship between
STATISTICS FOR variables
TOURISM  Make better decisions
 Tackle the changes
 Create plans and forecast
TYPES OF STATISTICS
INFERENTIAL
DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS STATISTICS
 Descriptive statistics is a method  Inferential statistics is a method that
related to collecting / presenting can be used to analyze small groups of
parent data or samples taken from the
data to provide useful
population to forecast and draw
information. conclusions on the parent data group or
population.
THE DIFERENCES

DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS INFERENTIAL STATISTICS

Collecting, summarizing, and describing data. Drawing conclusions and/or making decisions
concerning a population based only on sample data.
 Collect data : survey
 Estimation : estimate the population mean weight
using the sample mean weight
 Present data : tables, graphs  Hypothesis testing : test the claim that the
population mean weight is 120 pounds

 Characterize : sample mean X i
