What are Electric Vehicles
An Electric Vehicle is a vehicle that operates on an electric motor, instead of an internal combustion engine that generates
power by burning a mix of fuel and gases. Electric vehicle is seen as a possible replacement for the current-generation
automobile in near future to address environmental challenges.

Inspired by road going automobiles powered by

electricity.

Propelled by one electric motor or more using

batteries.

Electric motors give instant torque, and smooth

acceleration.

Plug-in electric vehicles (EVs) are fast, fun and

efficient. Maintenance is simpler and cheaper.

Fire Hazards
Associated with EV
Charging
Fire Accidents are on the Rise

With Ever going increase inn the use of electrical vehicles fire and
life safety is becoming a major areas of concern. some of the fire
cases had been reported in several cities during charging and
normal use at ambient temperature….

• On 26 March 2022 Ola Pro S1 Electric Scooter catches fire on the

busy streets of Pune city. subsequently the manufacturer recall all
its scooters for further improvements related to fire safety in its 2
wheelers.
• On 28 March 2022 Okinawa Autotech E-Scooter Catches fire

All such incidence forcing the government to make stringent policies

The CEI – Electrical & Fire Safety Policy Initiatives

• Through Chief Electrical Inspectorate the Government needs to ensure the safe working of EV
charging station as the charging of a moving vehicles' has to be carried out with great care and again the use of
DC current needs critical attention as the selection of switchgears is a skilful task.
• MEASURES RELATING TO SAFETY AND ELECTRIC SUPPLY (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 2019
Specifies safety requirements for charging infrastructure including general safety for EV charging
stations, earth protection system, fire safety, testing of charging stations, inspection and periodic assessment,
maintenance of records, and safety provisions as per international standards that need to be followed
Provisions related to Earth Protection system for charging station
Provisions related to Protection EV charging system
Provisions related to Power Quality and harmonics elimination for charging station
• The CEI has also prepared the Standard operating Procedure (SoP)/Guidelines for
scrutiny/inspection of Public EV Charging Station (PEVCS) for Two/Three/Four Wheelers across
Maharashtra briefly summarising Evs charging concept within the gambit of set of procedures
The Conclusion
There’s nothing like the excitement that comes with purchasing an electric vehicle for the first time. Of course,
most attention is focused on the vehicle’s attractive features and performance, but equal consideration should
also be given to how and where to charge the vehicle.

Fire is the number one hazard when it comes to EVSE installations. While fire can be caused by a variety of
reasons, the most common cause is outdated electrical wiring and power supplies within the building or
structure where the charger is installed.

As the number of electric vehicles on the roads increases, so too does the infrastructure needed to charge
them and keep them safe. Our Department have created guidelines to ensure electric vehicle supply
equipment (EVSE) is installed safely and in line with regulations. and I assure you in State of Marashtra we will
be going to implement it soon with Electrical Safety as a highest priority to ensure Accident free electrical
Vehicles transportation.
