ROBOTS WHICH SHOW EMOTION

Edwin Agbenyega (201102465) Abdul Karim (201102522)

WHAT IS EMOTION?
Emotions are feelings of joy, sorry, hate, love, etc.. Digital emotion refers to the concept in which technological devices are made to show human emotions.

HUMAN ROBOT INTERACTION: HRI

To ensure efficient interaction between humans and Robots, scientist undertook the HRI project. The HRI is an annual international conference that aims at researching about humanrobot interaction and incorporating human-like characteristics in robots.

ANDROID HUMANOID ROBOTS

A humanoid robot or an anthropomorphic robot is a robot which has features similar to humans and can interact with the environment. In general humanoid robots have a torso with a head, two arms and two legs, although some forms of humanoid robots may model only part of the body, for example, from the waist up. Some humanoid robots may also have a 'face', with 'eyes' and 'mouth'.

EXAMPLES OF ANDROID HUMANOID ROBOTS

As there is a tremendous progress made in the field of information technology scientist are working hard in the field of robotics. The purpose of these efforts is give human like emotions and feelings to the robots. Many countries are spending huge amount of money on such projects. The following are some of the examples such robots.

EVER2-MUSE (SOUTH KOREAN)

South Korea's humanoid robot EveR2-Muse (R) sings a song by lip synchronization at Robot World 2006 in Seoul, ROK, on Oct. 18, 2006. The robot, which weighs 60kg and is 165cm tall, will makes its performance as a pop singer on October 21, KITECH, the company which invented the robot said. The robot was designed to represent the average Korean woman in her 20's.(Xinhua/Reuters Photo)

HRP-4C (Japanese)
HRP-4C has 30 motors in her body that allow her to walk and move its arms (somewhat loudly and awkwardly) and 8 facial motors for blinking, smiling, and expressing emotions akin to anger and surprise.

ALBERT HUBO (USA AND SOUTH KOREA)

Working in collaboration with the American-based Hanson Robotics , KAIST developed the humanoid, Albert HUBO. This robot would combine two robotic systems; an android style head and a bipedal robotic body. Hanson Robotics has developed Frubber (a contraction of flesh and rubber) which can wrinkle, stretch, and amass much more realistically than typical animatronics materials. Being porous, Frubber weighs less and requires minimal power to move.

JULES- A TYPICAL HUMANOID ROBOT

Meet Jules a life-like robot that boasts an incredibly advanced Humankind AI. Developed by Hanson Robotics, this humanoid robot can be custom programmed based on your memory, knowledge, speech patterns, and thoughts. On the outside, Jules is made of lightweight Frubber, allowing for realistic facial expressions.

Will they think like us? Would they be able to predict the future? Would they feel like humans: falling in love, hurting, hating, fighting?... .

THE VIDEO MAY GIVE YOU AN IDEA WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE IF ROBOTS GET EMOTION AND FEELINGS.
