Demonstrating…
• We have here a globe and a flashlight. We
need three volunteers to illustrate to us the
following:
• Show the correct direction on how the
earth rotates on its axis.
• Explain what causes day and night.
• What makes day?
• What makes night?
Differentiated Activity

Rotation of the Earth

The earth rotation is its

spinning or turning on its axis. The
earth’s axis of rotation is tilted by 23.5
degrees and is perpendicular to the
plane of its orbit, causing day and
night. The Earth takes 24 hours to
complete a rotation on its axis.
Revolution of the Earth

• The Earth’s revolution is its

movement around the sun in a fixed,
elliptical imaginary orbit. The earth
takes a full year or 365 and ¼ days for
one complete revolution around the
Sun. The Earth remains tilted while
revolving around the Sun, resulting in
the four seasons.
• What might happen if
the earth does not
rotate?
• What affects might it bring
to the earth itself, to the
people and other living
organism on it, to the
temperature.
•What is rotation?
•What is earth
revolution?
• What causes day and night?
• The earth takes how many
hours to complete a rotation on
its axis?
• What is the importance of
having day and night?.
In a ¼ sheet of paper, write TRUE if the statement explains the
earth rotation and occurrence of day and night. Write FALSE if the
statement is wrong.

1. Rotation of the earth causes day and night.

2. It takes one year or 365 &1/4 days for the earth to rotate
completely on its axis.

3. Different parts of the earth experience day and night because the
earth is rotating on its axis.

4. When the sun shines on the part of the Earth, that part is night
time.

5. The activities of people on the different parts of the Earth differ

during day time and night time.
