 Initiative to Protect Our Planet
 World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in
1972, set up to raise awareness of the planet Earth and the issues around its well
being and to encourage worldwide awareness and action to protect the environment.

 World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5th June in more than 105
countries

 World Environment Day is hosted every year by a different country and

commemorated with an international exposition through the week of June 5th
 World Environment Day – The Theme & The Host
The theme for 2024, "Our Land, Our Future. We are
#GenerationRestoration" emphasizes the importance of
restoring land, combating desertification, and enhancing
resilience to drought.
Desertification, land degradation, and drought caused primarily
by human activities and climatic variations, are a silent and
invisible crisis affecting people in all regions of the world.

World Environment Day, this year is being hosted by the

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the 5th of June.

As a nation facing degradation, desertification and drought, the

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is deeply invested in delivering
solutions. The Kingdom is acting nationally and regionally
through the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green
Initiative. And it is acting globally, as we saw when the Saudi
presidency of the G20 resulted in the adoption of the Global
Land Restoration Initiative.
 Zeroite – the eco space

• Gujarat’s first Zero Waste Store in Vadodara

• Founded by Ms. Rajeshwari Singh.
• She is also known as “walking girl of Gujarat”.
She walked 1100 km in 4.5 Days from Gujarat to
Delhi in 2018. As an active environmentalist and
India being the host country of World
Environmental Day 2018, she planned this activity.
• Her vision is to brand the rich cultural diversity of
India globally.
Philosophy Of Zero Waste

• The concept of Zero Waste aims to minimize use of

resources and maximise the ongoing benefits of the
essentials value within the waste generated by society.

• Zero Waste is a philosophy that encourages the

redesign of resource life cycle so that all products are
reused. No trash is sent to landfills and incinerators.

• For Zero Waste, the important 3 Rs are

o Reduce - reduce generation of waste at the source
o Reuse - maximise recovery of materials of reuse
o Recycle - maximise recycling of discarded material
