INTRODUCTION
Background
• Nepal, being a rich country in water resources lags to provide safe
drinking water to its all population,
• 884 million people in the world live without access to clean water sources
(Source: WHO Joint Monitoring Program Report 2019) whereas; 11% of
Nepal's total population (Source: NMIP 2016) have no access to improved
water supply facilities at their houses,
• Amarauli is a small village in Nepal located in Madi Municipality-4,
Chitwan, is 40 kilometers south from Bharatpur and is 2 kilometers south
of the Chitwan national park.
Problem Statement
• People from Amarauli village use water contaminated mainly by high Iron
concentration and biological contamination by presence of coliform and
turbidity(in monsoon),
• Adverse health impacts such as water borne diseases (diarrhea, typhoid,
cholera etc.) and skin problems,
• Lack of governmental interventions on water project, and
• Local body's focus to invest money only on the road and electrical
expansion.
Objectives

Main objectives
• To carry out the detailed survey, design, estimate and prepare a detailed
project report of Amarauli water supply and sanitation project.

Specific objectives
• To assess the demographic data and social mapping for water demand
finalization, layout plan preparation;
• To carry out the detailed field survey of the whole system by using leveling;
• To analyze the survey data for the design and estimation of pumping system,
water purification system, pipeline network and distribution system.
Scope and Limitations
The scope of the decentralized and solar powered water purification and
distribution in Amarauli village include design of solar photovoltaic system for
operating the solar pumps and water quality improvement by employing
removal technology of Iron and microbiological contamination.

Limitations of this project study are:

• This project study does not cover the hydro-geological investigation of the
groundwater resources of the project area;
• The study is limited only for the 52 households of two clusters of Amarauli
village, the adjoining and nearby clusters will not be included in this
assignment;
• The study does not cover the laboratory analysis of water quality, the only
field tests will be carried out by using Hanna checker (for Iron & FRC i.e.
Free Residual Chlorine).

LITERATURE REVIEW
• Technical Guideline for the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Projects,
Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Fund Development Board: Guideline
for all details of gravity flow systems, toilet models, designing and costing
approaches, sequential order of design and estimate preparation along with
excel/auto cad generated TECHMIS.
• National Drinking Water Quality Standard, 2062: Standard describing 27
water quality parameters to be complied in both urban and rural water
supply and sanitation projects in Nepal and the procedures of water
sampling and testing. Both WHO and Nepal limits for each water quality
parameter is given in the standard.
LITERATURE REVIEW
• Solar Water Pumping Operational Guideline for Rural Nepal, RVWRMP
Phase II: Guideline developed by the Finnish project; Rural Village Water
Resources Management Project for the stepwise approach of solar pumps
needs assessment, power calculation, pump selection, costing and
operation and maintenance of the solar pump systems.
• Community Water Supply and Sanitation Project Design Volume 1-12,
DWSS: Nepal's first guideline for the rural water supply and sanitation
projects, which includes details drawings of all types of structures,
specifications, tendering process and designing steps.
• SOFTWEL software based on the excel program and integrated with
AutoCAD: Extensive application of determining water demand, Reservoir
tank sizing, pipeline hydraulic designing and linkages of these to the
AutoCAD drawings for flow diagram and longitudinal profiles.

METHODOLOGY
STAGE 3
 Result Validation & Submission

STAGE 2
 Data analysis

 Design and Estimation

STAGE 1
 Literature Review

 Field Work/ Data Collection

Survey (Social data and Field)
• Social data collection(number of households, number of peoples, number of
Dug wells, number of toilets, water fetching time, water borne disease data,
physical observation of water quality.etc) by using mWater mobile
application supported by Wine To Water Nepal,
• Field survey by using leveling machine with reference to calculation of RLs
i.e. elevation of respective points,

Fig: mWater application

Data Analysis
• RL of the every points on the social map and field map noted, will be
calculated with reference to the BM i.e. Intake or Source,
• Water quality analysis will be carried out to design the water treatment
system,
• General data for the solar system e.g. panels location, depth of the dug well,
irradiation data will be taken.

Design and Estimation
• The water demand calculation, population forecasting, overhead reservoir
sizing, hydraulic calculation, water purification unit and yard connections
(one house one tap) will be designed with accordance to the calculated
precise field survey data and national standard using SW CBWSS
application,
• Pump design will be done with accordance to the pump performance chart
(Pedrollo),
• The estimation and budgeting will be carried out following the approved
government norms of Chitwan district and Madi municipality.
