Introduction of 1-phase IM

A single phase induction motor consists of a single

phase winding on the stator and a cage winding on the rotor.
In here field circuit work as a stator and conductor work as a
rotor. In the pulsating field, the rotor does not rotate due to
inertia. Therefore a single phase induction motor is not self-
starting and requires some particular starting means.
Types of 1-phase IM
• Single-phase motors may be classified as
under, depending on their constraction we
mainly used-
• Split-phase motor.
• Capacitor start motor.
• Permanent capacitor run motor.
• Capacitor start capacitor run motor.
• Shaded pole motor.
Introduction of 3-phase IM

Three-phase motors are a type of AC motor that is a

specific example of a polyphase motor. These motors can
be either an induction motor (also called an
asynchronous motor) or a synchronous motor.
The motors consist of three main components – the
stator, the rotor, and the enclosure.
Types of 3-phase IM
There are 3 types of 3 phase induction
motor-
• plain or squirrel cage induction motor
• slip-ring or wound rotor induction
motor
• double cage rotor induction motor
1-phase IM 3-phase IM
In single phase induction motor we apply 3 phase induction motor we apply 3
single phase supply . phase in stator.
Single phase is not self starting. 3 phase self starting .

Single phase resulting flux alternating . 3 phase induction motor resulting flux
revolving .
Single phase tourq alternating. 3 phase tourq revolving.

Single phase we need a centrifugal switch. 3 phase we don't need centrifugal switch.
Single phase we need an initial push. 3 phase we don't need an initial push.
