Robert Bruce and the Spider
• Robert Bruce, the king of Scotland, was defeated by the English
and his country was occupied by them. He tried many times to
free his country but got into hot water and was in vain. At last he
gave up his hope and ran to shelter in a cave.
• One day, while he was sitting inside the cave on a stone, he saw a
spider hanging by a fine thread and trying to reach the ceiling. It
made nine attempts without success but was not discouraged. It
went on and finally reached the ceiling. King Bruce, who was
watching the spider, got a vivid lesson by the spider's persistent
effort. King Bruce smiled to himself and said, "I must try and try
until I'm successful"
• He made another attempt to free his country and this time he shot
the target.
