TODO: What is emotional intelligence?
ETA: right now (~5mins)

• Okay, so we need to do some “team building”

• Some say the key to positive teamwork and

team outcomes is emotional management, for
which “emotional intelligence” is often cited.

• Amongst other things, teams benefit from

understanding how to regulate their own and
their team members’ emotions in a friendly way.

What is Miro?
• Miro is one of an ever-expanding set of online
collaboration tools.
• Such tools allow you to quickly share ideas
and designs with other people.
• We like Miro because it has lots of useful
templates, powerful drawing tools, and
sophisticated & integrated learning resources.

TODO: setup your Miro Account
ETA: right now (5 mins)
• Okay, first thing you need to do is setup a Miro Account and join our Miro team!
We have made this process easy – please click on the following permanent
“IT@JCU Miro Team” invite link (* ask your local lecturer for this!)
• If you don’t already have a Miro account, you will firstly see a “sign up” page. After
doing that you should see this:

Note

• It is possible to create and manage your own Miro teams.

• Although, such a Miro team will have limited functionality after
30-days.
• It is possible to apply for a student educational plan.
• However, during this subject, we expect that you focus on using
our local Miro Team!

When you create a new Miro board, you will see
something like this:

Using Miro Board name
• Each board has a name (the default
name is “untitled”) and represents
an infinite digital whiteboard.
• You add content to a board using
Miro’s object menu.
• The object menu is feature-rich, it
Object menu
allows you add sticky notes, shapes,
text, and many more things!
• You can also paste images, web
page links and a variety of different
types of information into a Miro
board.

jcu.edu.au
Using Miro
• After a while you will have added a
large amount of content to a board.
Board preview

• The board preview area is useful to

move around and zoom in/out of that
content.

jcu.edu.au
Using Miro
• You can customise how you wish to
navigate a board using the “Navigation
Mode” under the “Settings” menu

jcu.edu.au
Using Miro
• Miro includes a “guide” feature.
• This is a built-in help system that includes
various things such as “getting started”
advice and interactive “Tutorials”.
• We highly recommend that you explore
the help system! You will quickly learn
how to use Miro that way!

jcu.edu.au
Using Miro
Miro Teams
• After a while, you will have generated CP5046
several Miro boards.
• It’s a good idea to group related boards
within a Miro “Project”.
• Miro boards and Miro projects are
collected within a Miro “Team”.
• You will only need to use our Miro Team
during this subject.

jcu.edu.au
Using Miro
• You can share an individual Miro board
with many people – usually they will
also have a Miro account.
• There are a few ways to do this – one
way is by using the “share” button
when viewing a board

Activity 2 of 2: Find potential teammates
ETA: 30mins
• Start finding your teammates by completing this simple “team formation” exercise. Once you can use the basic
features of Miro and Discord, please open the “CP5046 Team Formation” Miro board (* ask your local lecturer for this!)

• The board contains the instructions for completing this task.

• During this week, please use this Miro Board to help you discover potential teammates. First in best dressed!

• You should be selecting teammates who can complement your strengths and weaknesses!

• Staff are also available to help you find your teammates this week and next week.

• If you have started to find teammates then we suggest that you create a private “Miro Project” for your team
and invite your teammates and staff to it. Please let staff know who are your teammates – you might also
consider creating a private slack channel for your teammates and staff.
