ORIGIN AND DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN SOCIETY AND ETHICS

SOCIETY
 Society refers to a larger grouping of people
who share a common set of habits, ideas, attitude
and considered themselves as a social unit
 A type of social system which attains the highest
level of self sufficiency as a system in relation to its
environment

 Society is a group of people with a common, at


least somewhat distinct culture who occupy a
particular territorial area, have a feeling of unity and
regard themselves as a distinguishable entity
 Society includes all social institutions

SOCIETY

 Membership in a given society is by virtue of birth

 The behaviors, interest, value system and attitude of the people are
determined by the society

 People have a patterned behavior which facilitates, coordinate and


regulates the rights, duties responsibilities and privileges of the people

 Smooth functioning of the society depends on how


well its members are adjusted to their roles
 Each society has its own way of living which is
handed down to new generation
 The relationship between and individual and society

 Both society and individual are interdependent


and promote the cause of social stability
 The concept of society is used both in narrow and
broad sense
 There are no geographical limitations for the
people belonging to a society

 In a narrow sense, society may be argued as the


people who live within a given geographical area
There are categories and grouping like caste, class,
age and sex within the society

 Society assigns certain status and role with


conscience i.e. inner acceptance of certain moral
norms as right compulsory and rigid where a feeling of
guilt is involved if one violates them
 In the light of punishment and reward, the individual
adjusts in the society

 The members of a given society usually shared a


common way of life and other pattern of human behavior
 So there are regularities in social life within society that
result in conformity to social norms which is even found
in most primitive as well as highly advanced societies
