ACTIVITY
“Subject vs. Object Pronouns
Board Race”
I will read a pronoun. You are going to choose
what case of pronouns it belong either a subject
or an object. Each student gets one point for their
team. The next students approach the board and
the games continues. The team with the most
points at the end of the game wins.
Learning objectives:
a. define pronouns;
b. understand the differences of the cases of
pronouns;
c. use the cases of pronouns correctly;
d. compose an essay utilizing different cases
of pronouns.
What is Pronoun?
A word that can function by itself as a
noun phrase and that refers either to the
participants in the discourse or to
someone or something mentioned
elsewhere in the discourse.
CASES OF PRONOUNS
1. Subjective Case
- A subject case pronoun is a
personal pronoun that is used as the
subject of a verb.
Singular Subjective Pronoun
1st person I
2nd person you
3rd person he, she, it
Plural Subjective Pronoun
1st person We
2nd person You
3rd person they
Example
• I listen to music.
• You passed me the plate.
• Solar dances on the floor.
• Lucas went to school.
• Georgine won the writing competition.
• It was windy and cold.
• Tomy and Sophie went abroad.

2. Possessive Case
- A pronoun indicating possession.
Singular Possessive Pronoun
1st person my, mine
2nd person your, yours
3rd person His, her, hers, its
Plural Possessive Pronoun
1st person our, ours
2nd person your, yours
3rd person their, theirs
Example
• The stack of paper on the table is mine.
• These unattended modules are yours.
• Rolan told them that the missing wallet was
his.
• Solem’s umbrella had a name on it so
everyone know it’s Solem’s.
• Are these school supplies ours?
• These answer sheets are theirs.

3. Objective Case
- These are pronouns that receive
the action in a sentence.
Singular Objective Pronoun
1st person me
2nd person you
3rd person him, her, it
Plural Objective Pronoun
1st person us
2nd person You
3rd person them
Example
• The kids are waiting for me.
• I waited for you.
• Please tell Baily I want Baily to tutor me.
• I prepared meals for him.
• The police couldn’t believe the story.
• Our dad took Roy and me to the school.
• He explained the routine to the students.
