Introduction
The term "E-waste," which stands for
"electrical and electronic waste," refers to
any devices of this kind that are
discarded after being used, including
computers, televisions and refrigerators.
E-waste has become an increasingly
significant issue; however, the quantity
of electronic waste that is wasted poses a
major risk to human health and the
environment worldwide.
1.1 Background of Study

• Global e-waste production reached 53.6 million metric

tons in 2019, averaging 7.3 kg per capita

• E-waste volume is expected to continue rising, projected

to exceed 74 million tons annually by 2030 In Malaysia,
household e-waste collection could contribute an
additional 10-15% to global scheduled waste generation
(Ismail & Hanafiah, 2021).
1.2 Problem Statement
E-waste is one of Malaysia's fastest-growing solid
waste categories, generating hundreds of
thousands of tones annually, with a need for
increased public awareness on proper disposal
protocols.
Malaysia generated 364,000 tonnes of e-waste in
2019, including industrial and household e-waste,
with ongoing challenges in managing e-waste
effectively.
1.3 Expected outcomes
• The study aims to enhance knowledge and
awareness among residents of Bandar Saujana
Putra about e-waste management and suitable
disposal methods aligned with recycling
technology.
1.4 Objectives

1.To examine the level of knowledge,

awareness, and practices towards e-
waste management.

2. To determine the relationship

between knowledge, awareness towards
e-waste management practices.

3. To analyze demographic
characteristics influencing e-waste
management practices among residents
of Bandar Saujana Putra
1.5 Scope of Study
● The research aims to increase awareness among residents regarding knowledge and
practices related to e-waste management within the community.

● Demographic characteristics such as age, gender, educational background, and

socioeconomic status will be examined to understand their influence on waste
management practices among residents.

● The research will involve surveying 382 individuals using questionnaires and
conducting data analysis to provide insights into e-waste management practices in
Bandar Saujana Putra.
1.6 Significant of Study
● Understanding residents' knowledge, awareness, and practices regarding e-waste
management is crucial in addressing this issue.

● Individual characteristics that systematically affect proper electronic waste

management behaviors will also be investigated.

primary categories: household e-waste and
e-waste from the industrial sector
Global Perspective Regarding E-Waste
● In 2019, an estimated 53.6 million tons of e-
waste were produced globally, but only
17.4% was formally collected and recycled,
with projections indicating a rise to 74.7
million tons by 2030.
 Estimation shows Malaysia generates 24.5 million units of E-waste

● Malaysia faces a critical issue with e-

waste management due to the
substantial volume of electronic waste
generated annually, exceeding
365,000 tonnes, surpassing the weight
of the Petronas Twin Towers.

The sampling size for the data collection is
established using the Krejcie and Morgan
table

70,000 people live in the Bandar Saujana

Putra area. The table by Krejcie and Morgan
indicated that 382 respondents were
required.
