SPECIFICATION OF MOSAIC FLOORING

WHAT IS MOSAC FLOORING

 Simply put, mosaic is the style of setting roughly cut


square pieces of stone, marble or glass into a flat binding
surface. To fill out the gaps between chips, you can use
grout or cement.

 Mosaic tiles are made up of squares of marble tile, glass, or


marble that are loosely cut and spread out on such a flat
bonding board. It is a traditional and exquisite art form,
creating mosaic tiling designs going back to ancient time.
1. MATERIALS
 The mosaic flooring consists of two layers a bottom and
top layer.
MOSAIC TOP
 The bottom layer of mosaic flooring is usually 20 to 25
mm thick consisting of cement concrete proportion 1:2:4. UNDER LAYER

 The top layer is usually 6 mm thick consisting of cement, BOTTOM LAYER


mixed marble chips in the proportion of 1:3/2.

 The sand must be free from dust, dirt, and the sand is
properly cleaned before use and the stone chips shall be
hard of 12 mm size.

 The cement is fresh and must be conforming to the I.S.


code of specifications and the marble chips size
maximum 3 mm and minimum 1.5 mm.
2. PREPARATION OF CEMENT
CONCRETE FOR BOTTOM LAYER
 First, the cement and sand are mixed thoroughly .

 Then this cement and sand mixture is mixed with stone +


chips.

 After mixing these cement, sand, and stone chips the


required water is slowly added into the mixture and
mixed until a uniform mix is obtained.

3. LAYING OF BOTTOM LAYER

 Before laying cement concrete the base shall be made


rough and cleaned and properly watered.

 Before laying cement concrete on the whole base area 2


kg per m2 cement slurry is applied.

 After applied cement slurry the concrete is laid within


the panel and compacted with wooden thapies and
smooth by using wooden floats.

 The whole base area is divided into panels of uniform size


and each panels area shall not be exceeding 2 m2 and the
inside and outside lengths also not exceed 2 meters and
1.25 meters in length respectively.
4. PREPARATION OF MATERIAL FOR TOP
LAYER

 The cement and the marble chips are mixed thoroughly


with proper proportion and the water is added gradually
and mixed until a uniform plastic mix is obtained.

5. LAYING OF TOP LAYER

 The laying of the top layer must be carried out within


two hours of laying the bottom layer of cement concrete.

 The top layer of marble chips and cement is laid, and the
surface level perfectly with the help of float and trowel.

 After two hours of the laying top layer, the surface is


covered with wet bags, and pour water on the bags from
time to time so that the bags always remain in the wet
condition and the bags are left for two days.
6. GRINDING AND POLISHING

 The cement on the surface is removed by rubbing with


sandstone blocks and a neat cement wash is given on the
surface and left for six days.

 After six-day, the surface is rubbed with carborundum stones


until the entire surface shows a uniform granular appearance.

 After the final rubbing, the surface is washed with soap and
then with clean water.

 Finally, the oxalic acid powder is rubbed on the surface


when the surface is absolutely dry.
7. MEASURING
 The mosaic flooring or terrazzo flooring is measured in
the square meter.

• Calculate the cost of materials, tools, and supplies.


• Calculate the cost of the layout.
• Price out the design based on the cost of materials and
labor.
• Determine artistic value of artwork.
• Adjust the price for sale .
• Price buffer.
