head bent so far forward that his beard would nearly have touched his knobby
knees had he been just a bit taller.
2. The soft fur of the cat felt like a silk against my skin and his black coloring
glistened as it absorbed the sunlight, reflecting it back as a perfect, deep,
dark mirror.

clouds ablaze.

She was a phantom of delight I saw her upon nearer view, And now I see with eye serene
When first she gleam’d upon my sight; A Spirit, yet a Woman too! The very pulse of the machine;
A lovely apparition, sent Her household motions light and free, A being breathing thoughtful breath,
To be a moment’s ornament; And steps of virgin liberty; A traveller between life and death;
Her eyes as stars of twilight fair; A countenance in which did meet The reason firm, the temperate will,
Like twilight’s, too, her dusky hair; Sweet records, promises as sweet; Endurance, foresight, strength, and skill;
But all things else about her drawn A creature not too bright or good A perfect Woman, nobly plann’d,
From May-time and the cheerful dawn; For human nature’s daily food; To warn, to comfort, and command;
A dancing shape, an image gay, For transient sorrows, simple wiles, And yet a Spirit still, and bright
To haunt, to startle, and waylay. Praise, blame, love, kisses, tears, and smiles. With something of angelic light.
