• Established under Commonwealth Act
No. 181 (November 13, 1936) to define
the powers and duties of the Division of
Investigation and appropriate the
necessary funds for its operations.
• Republic Act No. 157 (June 19, 1947)
reorganized the Division of Investigation
into the Bureau of Investigation under the
Department of Justice (DOJ).
HISTORY
• Executive Order No. 94 (October 4, 1949)
renamed the Bureau of Investigation to the

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is
under the Department of Justice and focuses on

• Does not have station commanders; agents are
assigned to specific divisions or units based on
expertise.

within their jurisdictions.
• Roles and organizational structures of the NBI
and PNP are distinct within the Philippine law
enforcement system.

primary jurisdiction, the NBI provides support and
collaboration.

busts, arrests, and searches.

PNP and other agencies concerning criminal
activities and threats, ensuring effective
collaboration in law enforcement efforts.
