INTRODUCTION

 The word AUTOMATION come from the ancient Greek word which means
SELF-DICTATED.
 Automation can be defined in many ways as follows:
 The use of computer control systems to control machines in an industry,
different processes. Minimizing the dependence on human operators.
 The method or process of following a pre-defined sequence of operations
in the manufacturing of a product, without the assistance from human
operators.
 The technology of performing a manufacturing process with the help of
programmable signals. These signals are generated by programmed
instruction in forms of programmed commands.
INTRODUCTION

 These days manufacturing industries are implementing the

automation to increase QUALITY and FLEXIBILITY in their
manufacturing processes.
 The goal of INCREASING PRODUCTIVITY and REDUCING COST
has become secondary due to ever increasing global
competition.
 The implementation cost of automation was very high in the
past, but nowadays the implementation cost are decreasing
due to increase of knowledge in automation technology and sup-
port.
 This has increased the ability of automation to easily switch from
manufacturing product X to product Y without changing the
production lines.
