1. CHECK ELECTROHYDRAULIC
PERFORMANCE

1.1 Identify electrohydraulic

components

1.2 Inspect electrohydraulic system

performance
Presentation title 2
Electro-hydraulic systems

• Covers all combination of electrical (electronic) signal

processing with hydraulic drives.
• Electrohydraulic technology in which hydraulic valves
are opened or closed by switching solenoids. The
signal processing is generally undertaken using relay
technology.
Presentation title 3
What are the components of electro-hydraulic circuit?
Electro-hydraulic circuit consists of different
components such as electric motor which converts
electric energy into mechanical energy, the pump which
converts mechanical energy into hydraulic energy and
the actuator convert back hydraulic energy into
mechanical energy.

4/2-way Single-solenoid Valve, Spring Return
o Normal position: pressure port P is connected to
the working port B & the working port A is
connected to the tank port T. The valve is
actuated when the rated voltage is applied to
coil Y.
o Actuated position: port P is connected to port A,
& port B is connected to port T. When supply to
the coil is cut off, the valve returns to its normal
position.
o This valve can be used as the final control
element for controlling a double-acting cylinder.

Presentation title 6
4/2-way Single-solenoid Valve, Spring Return
o A /2-way double-solenoid electro-hydraulic
valve consist of two solenoid coils on either
side the valve controlling its hydraulic parts.
o The valve remains in a particular position
due to the application of a pulse or
continuous signal to the coil at one end as
long as no opposing signal is presented to
the coil at the other end.
o Hence, this valve shows the memory
characteristics.
Presentation title 7
Direct control of a double-acting
hydraulic cylinder
o The necessary actuation
force is obtained
electrically by solenoid.
o The off-center core of
the solenoid coil is
pulled towards the
center of the coil when
the electric current is
present.
o Solenoid valve acts an
interface between
hydraulic part and
electrical part.

CONTROL DEVICES
oA number of control elements such as:
i. Pushbuttons
ii. Relays
iii. Timers
iv. Sensors
o To realize various control functions

Presentation title 11
PUSH BUTTONS

o A device used to close or open an

electric circuit.
o Consist of PB actuating head, a set
of fixed & movable contact & a
restraining spring.
o Pressing the push-button against the
restraining spring operates its
contacts.

Presentation title 12
ELECTROMAGNETIC RELAY
o Consist of a stationary
contact & movable contact.
o Includes a stationary core &
movable core to confine the
magnetic field.
o When coil is energized,
movable core is pulled
towards stationary core.

Presentation title 13
SENSORS
oSensors can detect the presence of objects.
oA sensor can work either by the actual physical
contact with an object or by the movement of the
object in its proximity.
oAccordingly, the sensors are classified as contact-
type sensors (e.g. limit switch) and contactless-type
sensors (e.g. proximity sensors)

Presentation title 14
SENSORS – LIMIT SWITCH
o A limit switch is a contact-type sensor
compromising a set of switching contacts
(NO/NC type).
o The roller lever is mechanically linked to
the contacts.
o It is usually actuated mechanically by
moving element, such as cylinder piston.

Presentation title 15
SENSORS – PROXIMITY SENSORS
o A proximity sensor is a contactless-type
sensor that detects the presence of an
object using a detection system &
converts this information into a
corresponding electrical signal.
o There are a 4 commonly used proximity
sensors: inductive-type sensors,
capacitive-type sensors, magnetic-type
sensors & optical-type sensors.

Presentation title 16
SENSORS – INDUCTIVE PROXIMITY SENSORS
o Widely used in modern hi-speed industrial & process control
system for the detection of metallic object.
o If any metallic object is brought near to the active switching
area, eddy current are generated in the object and then
converted into heat.
o Switching circuit converts into clear signal through switching
stage.
o Finally, the output signal is amplified & delivered to the load
circuit.
o The sensing range is usually small, typically up to 12 mm.

Presentation title 18
TIME-DELAY RELAYS (TIMERS)
o A time-delay relay (or timer) is a control
device, used to obtain a specific time
delay between the work operations in an
industrial system.
o There are two basic types of timers. They
are (1) on-delay timer and (2) off-delay
timer.
