earth."
• Inferences erroneously drawn from facts observed in
nature have, however, led to supposed conflict
between science and revelation; and in the effort to
restore harmony, interpretations of Scripture have
been adopted that undermine and destroy the force of
the word of God...Millions of years, it is claimed, were
required for the evolution of the earth from chaos; and
in order to accommodate the Bible to this supposed
revelation of science, the days of creation are assumed
to have been vast, indefinite periods, covering
thousands or even millions of years. (Education 128.2)
• Such a conclusion is wholly uncalled for. The Bible record is
in harmony with itself and with the teaching of nature. Of
the first day employed in the work of creation is given the
record, “The evening and the morning were the first day.”
Genesis 1:5. And the same in substance is said of each of
the first six days of creation week. Each of these periods
Inspiration declares to have been a day consisting of
evening and morning, like every other day since that time.
In regard to the work of creation itself the divine
testimony is, “He spake, and it was done; He commanded,
and it stood fast.” Psalm 33:9. With Him who could thus
call into existence unnumbered worlds, how long a time
would be required for the evolution of the earth from
chaos? In order to account for His works, must we do
violence to His word? (Education Pg 129.1)

“Search the Scriptures”
September 15, 1897
In the plan of God, it is designed that old and young
shall study His Word. This is necessary for the
development of the intellect. God would have all
realize that the truth is capable of expanding and
increasing in grace and power. The student of God’s
Word finds that an effort to comprehend truth calls
forth all his powers. The truth is deep and broad and
high. Were it other than this, it would not be the truth.
But its clearness is proportionate to its depth. Upon
those who search the Scriptures, the truth found
therein has an elevating, ennobling influence, enabling
them to reach the standard of perfection.

• Psalm 19:1
"The heavens declare the
glory of God; and the

Some may suppose that these grand things in the natural
world are God. But they are not God. They but show forth His
glory. The ancient philosophers prided themselves upon their
superior knowledge. But let us read the inspired apostles
understanding of the matter. “Professing themselves to be
wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the
incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man,
and to birds, and four footed beasts, and creeping things; ...
who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped the
creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever more.”
[Romans 1:22, 23, 25.]

4. WHAT WAS Himself that formed the earth
GOD'S and made it; He hath established
OBJECT IN it, He created it not in vain, He
MAKING THE formed it to be inhabited. I am
EARTH? Jehovah; and there is none else."
This same earth, freed from the curse of sin, is to be man's eternal
home. Of the earth the Scripture says, that God “created it not in
vain, He formed it to be inhabited.” Isaiah 45:18. And “whatsoever
God doeth, it shall be for ever.” Ecclesiastes 3:14. The Story of
Jesus ( SJ) 183.4

So in the Sermon on the Mount the Saviour declared, “Blessed are

the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5. SJ 184.1

So the psalmist long before had written, “The meek shall inherit
the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of
peace.” Psalm 37:11. SJ 184.2

With this agree the words of the Scripture, “The righteous shall be
recompensed in the earth.” They “shall inherit the land, and dwell
therein for ever.” Proverbs 11:31; Psalm 37:29. SJ 184.3
• Genesis 1:27
"So God created man in His
own image, in the image of

them."
Man is the highest and noblest of all God’s creatures.
In the beginning man was made in the image of God.
God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our
likeness. ... So God created man in his own image, in
the image of God created he him, male and female
created he them.” [Genesis 1:26, 27.] God formed us
for His glory, and He desires us in every word and act
to acknowledge this. 15LtMs, Lt 164, 1900, par. 4

good for food. . . And Jehovah God
took the man, and put him into the
garden of Eden to dress it and to keep
it.
Although everything God had made was in the
perfection of beauty, and there seemed nothing
wanting upon the earth which God had created to
make Adam and Eve happy, yet He manifested His
great love to them by planting a garden especially for
them. A portion of their time was to be occupied in the
happy employment of dressing the garden, and a
portion in receiving the visits of angels, listening to
their instruction, and in happy meditation. Their labor
was not wearisome but pleasant and invigorating. This
beautiful garden was to be their home. CC 12.2

We need not seek to know, by scientific
methods, what God is. “Who by searching can
find out God?” [Job 11:7.] As we follow in the
footsteps of Christ our Saviour, we shall learn
from Him all that we need to know of God. By
the revelation of His life and teaching, He leads
men from the lowest depths of sin to the highest
place in the heavenly courts, even to a seat upon
His throne. In Him all may be made complete.
