Art on public walls

History of graffiti
 Graffitihas been around for a long time, but it
gained momentum in the year 1960 in New
York when a young Greek man named
Demetrius, also known as Taki 183, became
famous for painting his signature everywhere
he delivered messages.
ORIGIN OF THE WORD GRAFFITI
 Some writers point out that
the concept of graffiti has its
origin in the Greek word
'graphien,' which meant to
write. However, others suggest
that it comes from the Italian
word 'graffiare,' which means
to scratch or scribble.

EVOLUTION OF GRAFFITI
 Due to the increase in tagging (short
signatures) and writers, the structure of
the signature began to change, as well as
variations in the aesthetics of the
paintings. This emphasized everything
related to the art of painting, which led to
different designs and types of lettering.

DESIGNS IN GRAFFITI
 There are designs known
as:

 Typographic: This includes

tags (signatures) and texts
that generate the entire

 Illustrations, drawings, and

paintings of all kinds have
in common the use of spray
paint. They have two
cultural expressions: punk
and Hip Hop culture.
Types of Graffitis
Verbal
 Verbalgraffiti: Composed solely of letters,
may include sayings, and do not feature
any other elements.
Iconic
 Iconic
graffiti: Composed of signs, signals,
symbols, shields, and drawings in general.
Verbal-iconic
 Verbal-iconicgraffiti: Presents elements
from both the previous types, combining
letters and symbols or drawings in its
composition.
Graffiti in Chile
They are mainly done with spray paint, with some
variations using latex, enamel, and even markers.
Graffiti culture reached Chile in the mid-1980s, due
to the expansion of American culture through
movies, magazines, and television.

INTI
Inti's paintings precisely encompass those themes: people,
society, how it functions, culture, and the blending of
modernity with the history of the peoples. All of this is
captured in his work, always from a Latin American
perspective.

Laura Césped
Better known as Laura "Palta," she is a young artist from Santiago who uses art to convey
messages of reflection about feminism and society. She often combines portraits with
textual critiques, and her work stands out for its diverse color palette.

Since the beginning of her career, Laura has been known for painting indigenous figures
and phrases that promote social awareness. In her murals, you can always see strong,
wise women who fight every day because, as she herself says, graffiti can transmit
strength and empowerment.

Currently, her art is considered to

be more closely related to
muralism and aims to address
topics that are ignored or
prohibited in mainstream media.
