Simple present

1. Think about your daily schedule.

5. Any time you develop something of a routine,
you have to use simple present verbs to describe
it.
• To express habits:

Auxiliary verb:
 Do” and “does” are the auxiliary verbs of present simple tense.
 They are used only in negative and question sentences.
 The auxiliary verb “does” is used for third person singular (He, She, It).
 In other subjects (I, You, We, They), the auxiliary verb “do” is used.

Simple present spelling rules
For most verbs we add -s to the base form to make the she, he, it (third person singular) form:
• Walk- Walks
• Eat- Eats
• Order-Orders

When the verb ends in -ch, -ss, -sh, -x or -zz, we add –es:
• Watch- Watches
• Miss- Misses
• Wash- Washes
• Mix- Mixes
• Buzz- Buzzes
When the verb ends in a consonant + -y we change y to i and add –es:

• Hurry- Hurries
• Study- Studies

Have, go, do and be are irregular, because they Don't follow a especial rule. We have a
long list about irregular verbs to see in the next class:

• Go- Goes
• Do - Does
• Be- is, am or are
Homework

• Students will write a short paragraph about your daily routine,


they need to use the simple present and present simple
markers, such as , usually, Always or every day.
