Title - Construction Management on Waterway Tunnel

Option - Construction Management

OUTLINE OF PRESENTATION

• Introduction
• Aim and Objectives
• Scopes of works
• Outlines of Thesis
• Implementation Plan
Introduction

 Tunnel construction is characterized by large scale, long duration and complex

technical issues.

 Understand the complex procedures in the entire sequence of tunneling works,

involving surveying, drilling, charging and blasting, ventilation, mucking, scaling,
mapping and support works of steel rib and shotcrete.

 Construction accidents are likely to cause project delays, safety management plays an
important role in a project’s timely completion.
Introduction (Continued)

 There has been increasing number of studies concerning safety management in tunnel
construction.

 Effective project management requires to complete a project at an acceptable level of

quality, budget and time.
Aim and Objectives
 Understand the geological perspective/ condition before excavation.

 Consider the possibility of collapse during construction which may cause significant
time and cost overruns.

 Systematic control and understanding of tunnel physics is key to preventing these

dangers.

 Well planned investigations and evaluation of stability conditions are key issues of the
planning, design and construction activities.

 Explore the most effective means for constructing tunnels for hydropower project.
Scope of Works
Tunnel length - 507.165 meters
Waterway Diameter - 8 meters

 Understanding there are various type of construction techniques developed for

construction of tunnel.

 Studying in the failure of tunnel occasionally occurs in construction due to lack of

proper management and careless mistakes during excavation.

 Provide the guidelines on safety management in the overall tunneling process.

 The cost and construction time optimization play important role for the sustainable and
economically favorable for construction of tunnelling work.
Outline of thesis

Thesis includes five chapters

Chapter (1) : Introduction

Chapter (2) : Background Theory

Chapter (3) : Construction Sequences of Tunnelling Work

Chapter (4) : Effective Management on Tunnelling Work

Chapter (5) : Discussions, Conclusion and Recommendations

Implementation Plan

• These structures can be used for multi-purposes such as irrigation, hydropower

generation and water supply.

• Waterway tunnel can also protect water supplies from natural disasters such as
flood, and earthquake.

• Waterway tunnels have been used for many years to transport water from reservoir
to a power plant.
Implementation Plan(Continued)

• Water is transported through tunnel and used to run turbines, which generate clean and
renewable energy.

• Waterway tunnel allows for better control of the power generation process.
