Product development
The next slide contains information about my old product that I've designed which is the
earphone case. It was designed to protect earphones from getting tangled while practicing
everyday activities. Furthermore, my development has been shown through the upcoming
slides by turning my old earphone holder box to a new jewelry box.
Situation Outline and User
Tangled earphones usually causes disturbance since it takes a while to This problem exists nearly everywhere from public in the library to staying at

earphones can get damaged whilst you are trying to untangle them. are solutions available to keep earphones safe and wrapped up in a little
pocket-sized box that can be transported everywhere. This problem exists when
individuals have a desire of listening to a few beats to help brighten up the
mood, however it just ends up ruining it even more. A few limitations would be
for example: small sized to help fit in pockets with an additional hook to attach
to clothes for extra support, the weight should be light so that maybe using
it while going for a run would be simple and efficient, the cost of this product
should be a minimum cost of two dollars. We could send out a survey about
customers' preferences whether it's about the material, or even the
color. Customers would even be able to order and customize their own design!

The problem
Design Brief
I am making a pocket-sized case for earphones to keep them untangled
and safe.
This project is important because most people who use
earphones daily struggle with untangling them. The problem is aimed
at teenagers to adults. The price of these cases would only be 2 rials for
a simple one, more customized ones will go up to 3.5.

how it frustrates people

Criteria 1
Specification point Description Justification
Cost It will be around 3 rials, but 5 if customized by buyer This product will only be approximately 3 rials since it's small and the materials used to make it will
not cost much. However, it will cost more if product is changed/customized since more time and
effort will be put in

Function Wood and glue I specifically chose wood for this because it will be tough to break if anyone accidentally dropped
it. Glue is good enough to keep the product stuck together for a long period of time.

Desirable functions A lid covering the whole top part of the product This desirable function would be a good idea to add more safety to the product due to any

slight inconveniences.

Storage It could be stored anywhere (if at home)

There is no need constantly guarding it since it's not fragile. If it's being used in public, then I would

suggest keeping it in a pocket.

Aesthetics Variety of different colours, shapes, sizes

This usually depends on the customer in terms of decoration (colours, patterns, etc.) to make sure

the appearance pleases them. The basic option is a black, squared headphone protector.

Materials Waterproof wood

Waterproof wood would be beneficial especially for music lovers who enjoy going on a run with

earphones in. The materials used should be tough and not easy to break because if there was any
sort of damage it might affect the earphones. Which is why it's best to choose strong matter.

Ergonomics The product will be safe for all users

I will make sure to sand the wood after the whole building process to keep the texture and smooth

and safe as possible for users.

Target audience People who enjoy good quality sound

According to my research most buyers are males, and students. This group of people (including

others) usually listen to music while doing their work. I will attract potential buyers by showing
them how neatly this product keeps earphones safe.

Manufacture This require a few skills some of the skills that are needed is like measuring the accurate amount of wood that needs to be

cut, the products sides also have to be precisely symmetrical. Making sure the right amount of
glue has been put in between the separate pieces for support.

Environmental issues It is eco-friendly

Usually, wood is renewable and so is our product. If our product is painted on or stained (will be

common when it comes to customized orders) then the chances of the material being recyclable
are very low. Therefore, this product wouldn't necessarily harm the environment too much.

My box will include a quote about beauty since it

Details is indeed a jewelry box. It will include the words

of "It's what's on the inside that counts". This message
can be read while opening the jewelry
I added silver hinges to the acrylic lids of box to motivate teenage girls and make them
the box to help swing them open and feel more confident. It is also slightly ironic
shut. This function would allow the user because what's on the inside is literally what
to either store and put in their jewelry, counts, which is the jewelry.
or even take them out to wear them. I
used these looking ones specifically
because they are pretty and aesthetically
pleasing which would attract teenage
females. In addition, they complete the
look by creating a contrast between the
silver and different shades of pink.

I've just learnt that mostly girls around the age of 8-
20+ use jewelry boxes to store their valuable
Research accessories which split into a various range of types,
shapes, and sizes. They would much rather prefer a
box with compartments so that they don’t end up
analysis tangled or intertwined. Which is why this specific
product stands out, as some don’t include the
compartments.
