EcoSort
Deep Learning approach for E-Waste Segregation.
Introduction
In recent years, the amount of electronic devices has led to a concerning surge in electronic waste
(e-waste) worldwide. With gadgets being discarded at an alarming rate, effective e-waste
management has become an urgent global priority. Traditional methods of e-waste disposal often
involve inefficient and environmentally harmful practices, such as landfilling or incineration,
leading to pollution and resource wastage.

To address this pressing issue, we have created an android application which will scan the E-
waste and segregate into raw material using innovative approaches like deep learning offering
promising solutions for e-waste segregation.

Deep learning, a subset of Machine Learning inspired by the structure and function of the human
brain, has demonstrated remarkable capabilities in various fields, including computer vision and
pattern recognition. Leveraging CNN and DCNN algorithms can analyze vast amounts of data to
identify patterns and make intelligent decisions, making them well-suited for complex tasks such
as image classification and object detection.

The application of deep learning in e-waste segregation from our application represents a
transformative approach towards sustainable waste management practices. As advancements in
CNN continue to accelerate, the potential for leveraging technology to address environmental
challenges like e-waste is vast, offering hope for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
Project Description
1. Objective:
1) Automate Process by using CNN Algorithm.
2) Identify different type of E-Waste.
3) Analyse the generation of E-waste.
4) Increase Economic benefits by conserving resources.

2. Scope :
1) To segregate E-Waste into Raw Material.
2) Help segregate E-waste which can be used for the purpose of Stem Learning.
3) Utilizing 3D printing technology to create products and prototypes from recycled plastics from e
waste.
4) Increasing Urban Mining by converting E-waste into production of the smaller quantities of raw-
metal like platinum, silvers etc.
Project Description

3. Benefits:
1) Increasing Recycling rate: Automatic waste classification enhances recycling rates by efficiently identifying and
separating recyclable materials from the waste stream, contributing to a more sustainable recycling process.

2) Reduced Contamination of Soil: Accurate segregation minimizes contamination in recycling streams, leading to
higher-quality recycled products and ensuring that materials are appropriately processed.

3) Cost Saving: Reduction in manual sorting requirements and increased recycling efficiency can lead to cost savings for
waste management facilities over the long term.

4) Enhanced Public Perception: Adopting advanced and environmentally friendly technologies can improve the public
perception of waste management facilities and contribute to a positive image in the community.
Abstract
This project aims to develop and deploy CNN for automated E-waste segregation, distinguishing
recyclables from non-recyclables. The system aims to deploy Deep Learning model which can
be used for segregating e - waste into different categories such as Temperature Exchange
Equipment, Screens and Monitors, Lamps, Large Equipment, Small Equipment and IT and
Telecommunication Equipment to enhance operational efficiency by reducing manual sorting by
using mixed attention mechanism using CNN which helps us to sort plastic in form of heaps,
optimizing resource allocation.

Additionally, it seeks to contribute to environmental conservation by increasing recycling rates,

minimizing contamination, and promoting responsible waste disposal. The scalable and
adaptable design accommodates varying facility sizes and waste compositions. The system
generates data-driven insights on waste patterns, informing future strategies and sustainable
urban planning.
