Training Programme for

ASHAs on prevention of
common Eye
Diseases under NPCB.
GENERAL INFORMATION
 National Programme for Control of Blindness
(NPCB) was launched in the year 1976 as a
100% centrally sponsored programme with
the goal of achieving a prevalence rate of
0.3% of population.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
ARE:
 To reduce the backlog of blindness by
identifying and providing services to the
affected population. To expand coverage of eye
care services to the underserved areas;

 To provide high quality of eye care services to


the affected population;
 To develop institutional capacity for eye
care services by providing support for
equipment and material and training
personnel.

 To enhance community awareness on eye


care.

 To improve quality of service delivery.


ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN BY NPCB:
 FreeCataract Operations Camps at State and
District level.

 FreeSchool Eye Screening for correction of


various eye diseases.

 Treatment/ Screening and free spectacles for


near work to Old Person (New component)

 Treatment of Other Eye Diseases, like Glaucoma,


Diabetic Retinopathy, Refractive Errors, Eye
Injuries, etc.
 Celebration
of World Sight Day on every 2nd
Thursday of October

 Observationof World Glaucoma Day on 12th


March Every year.

 Training
of Various categories of Medical and
Para Medical Personnel's including ASHA & AWW

 Extensive IEC through out the state by all means


of Media.
