Cold Storage Project (1)
Cold Storage Project (1)
Cold storage is the one widely practiced method for bulk handling of the perishables
between production and marketing processing. It is one of the methods of reserving
perishable commodities in fresh and whole some state for a longer period by controlling
temperature and humidity with in the storage system. In this system has been used
refrigeration system, if we use the waste heat from our power plant we will reduce the
power Consumption for both cold storage and power plant Auxiliary Consumption.
SELECTION OF CROP
The Design of Cold Storage Plant is Mainly Depending upon Selection of Crops, Since
every crops need different temperature and relative Humidity
Examples
Maintaining Maintaining Relative
S.No Crops
Temperature (°C) Humidity (%)
1 Tomato 18 to 21 85 - 90
2 Mango 13 to 15°C 85 - 90
3 Tamarind 09 to 10 85 - 90
4 Guava 13 to 15°C 85 - 90
5 Pomegranate 0 to 2 95 - 100
6 Cabbage 0 to 2 95 - 100
7 Cauliflower 0 to 2 95 - 100
8 Radishes 0 to 2 95 - 100
9 Potatoes 13 to 15°C 85 - 90
TAMARIND COLD STORAGE PLANTS
In Chittoor District number of Cold Storages has been Storing tamarind, Since here is
availability of Tamarind is high.
Lowest temperature attained is above 0 -150 degree Celsius or even lower can be
6
temperature degree Celsius achieved.
Coefficient of The COP of absorption refrigeration The COP of Vapour compression system is

Performance system is poor. very good.

AIR COOLED CONDENSER
An air cooled condenser (ACC) is a direct dry cooling system where steam is condensed
inside air-cooled finned tubes. The cool ambient air flow outside the finned tubes is what
removes heat and defines the functionality of an ACC
