The story begins in 1959 when Dr. Javier Pulgar Vidal, rector of the Universidad
Comunal del Centro and the German professor Erwin Scheweigger proposed creating a
subsidiary of the Faculty of Aquaculture and Oceanography in our city. In Huacho, this
initiative was well received and in a short time the Pro Faculty Committee was formed,
chaired by the provincial mayor at the time, Enrique V. Reyes, the linguist Alfredo
Torero and the poet Flor de María Drago Persivale, prominent Huachano figures.
It was in 1960 that the branch of the Faculty of Aquaculture and
Oceanography was made official in our Capital of Hospitality, a place
strategically chosen by the authorities of the University of the Center
for being close to the sea.
On April 3, they began their academic activities as a subsidiary and three years later the
Universidad Comunal del Centro created two more faculties, that of Economic Sciences and that
of Letters and Education. In this way they were growing and training new professionals in the
area.
 After a few years, students and teachers came together to fight for the independence
and autonomy of the Huachana branch, achieving this on December 31, 1968, through
Decree Law No. 17358 given by the Revolutionary Government of the Armed Forces of
Peru.

Eight years after it was born as a subsidiary, it became the José

Faustino Sánchez Carrión National University, its first rector being
Engineer Luis Felipe Ricci Bohórquez, after having led the fight to
become the first higher education house in the region.

Currently with more than 50 years of teaching, the university has a modern university city with 13
faculties and 38 professional courses. They host thousands of students with the firm purpose of
preparing them to achieve their greatest goals.
