Introduction to Communication
 Communication is a art of transmitting knowledge, ideas,
information and thoughts from one person to another.

 Transfer should be in such way that the receiver understand the


meaning and the intern of the message and give proper feedback.

 It can be verbal or nonverbal.

 Verbal refers to use of language and words.

 Non verbal refers to symbol and sign.

Communication barriers refer to anything that gets in the way of clear communication

 Every obstacle that stands between the sender and receiver is
barrier to communication.

 If the if the message is not clear enough to convey context, it leads


to misunderstandings.

 These barriers can occur at any stage of the communication


process.

Physical Barriers
 Physical barriers are factors that interfered with the conversation.

 Set of barriers is caused by physical appearance of our own


audience ,time ,place, climate ,know is choice of medium or context
of document or the presentation

 Some examples of physical barrier are:-


1. Noise
2. Message Distortion
Technical Difficulties

Linguistic Barrier
 Linguistic barrier usually occur when two people who speak
different languages cannot understand one another, and there is a
breakdown in language and communication.
 For example:-
 The American ascent is insufficient to understood in India while
Americans have hard time to make a sense for a Indian English.

Mechanical Barrier

 A barrier to communication is caused by a flaw in the


machine or instrument which used to convey the
message.

 Some examples of mechanical barrier are:-


1. Defective telephone
2. Electricity / Computer breakdown
3. Poor printing quality on paper

Psychological Barrier
 Barriers due to the emotional character and mental/physical
limitation of human being is considered as psychological
barrier to communication.

 Some examples of psychological barrier to


communication:-
1. Poor Eyesight
2. Gender Barriers
3. Ideological Loyalties

Status Barrier
 Status of position in the hierarchy of an organization is
one of the fundamental barriers that obstruct free flow
of the information so this is considered as the status
barrier.
 Status barriers is a kind of psychological barrier where
higher or lower status of the other party disable from
one expressing one’s meaningfully.
 For Example:-
1. A candidate from a modest background maybe abstract
to the glitters and grammar of a multinational company.

Conclusion

Communication may breakdown as a result of many


communication barrier that may attributed to send or
receiver. Therefore effective communication requires
familiarity with the barriers. Choosing the right channel
for communication is also important, because choose in
the wrong medium and the mind some message.
