PROBLEM
STATEMENT

COMPACTING FOOD
WASTE(AGE OLD
FIFO SYSTEM)
The “first-in, first-out” (FIFO) method
has been used when stocking store
shelves for decades. In theory, the FIFO
method will increase the chances that the
oldest items are purchased before those
that have just been placed on the shelves.
In turn, this should minimize food waste.
Unfortunately, current FIFO systems rely
on an honor system. An inattentive or
irresponsible grocery store employee
may slide old items to the back of
shelves and put newly received products
front and center to finish their daily tasks
faster.

OBJECTIVE

• By utilizing technology such as IoT sensors, machine

learning algorithms, blockchain technologies, and data
analytics, it's possible to track and predict food waste
patterns in real-time, optimizing the supply chain and
reducing food waste. Additionally, technology can be used to
develop new food packaging that extends the shelf life of
perishable goods and reduces waste. By combining these
technologies, it is possible to create a comprehensive system
that can help reduce food waste, improve supply chain
efficiency, and ultimately, make society more sustainable
through the practice of Zero-Waste-Kitchen.

USP
The unique selling proposition (USP) of this waste reduction service
lies in its comprehensive approach to tackling food waste within the
supermarket industry. Unlike other solutions that may focus solely
on one aspect of waste reduction, such as inventory management or
customer education, this service offers a holistic suite of tools and
resources designed to address every stage of the food supply chain.
Its ability to integrate seamlessly into existing supermarket
operations, combined with its focus on sustainability and efficiency,
sets it apart as a leading solution in the market. Moreover, the
service's emphasis on community engagement and collaboration
fosters a sense of shared responsibility among supermarkets,
encouraging collective action towards reducing food waste on a
larger scale.

SERVICES OFFERED
Interactive Mobile App: Develop a user-friendly mobile app that serves as the
central hub for accessing the waste reduction service. The app would offer a range of
features including:
• Virtual Reality Training: Integration of the VR simulation for waste reduction
training directly into the app, allowing users to access interactive modules
anytime, anywhere.
• Shopping List Management: Allow users to create and manage shopping lists
within the app, with smart algorithms that suggest quantities based on past usage
patterns and expiration dates.
Expiration Alerts or Personalized Notifications: Send timely notifications to users
reminding them of impending expiration dates for perishable items in their fridge or
pantry. These alerts could include suggestions for using up the items before they
spoil.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The primary target audience for this waste reduction

service within the supermarket industry includes
supermarket managers, owners, and staff. They are keen to
implement solutions that can help optimize their supply
chain, minimize food waste, and improve overall
efficiency. Additionally, corporate sustainability teams
within supermarkets are also part of the target audience, as
they are dedicated to promoting sustainable practices and
reducing the environmental impact of supermarket
operations.

MARKETING AND SALES

STRATEGIES
To market the waste reduction service effectively to supermarket audiences, a
comprehensive strategy blending digital outreach, industry networking, and
targeted messaging is essential. Alongside these efforts, content marketing
initiatives such as informative blog posts, whitepapers, and case studies
distributed through various channels like social media and email newsletters
position the service as a thought leader in waste reduction within the
supermarket sector. Strategic partnerships with industry organizations and
technology providers can also extend the service's reach.
10

REVENUE STREAM

The revenue stream for the waste reduction service within the
supermarket industry is primarily generated through a
combination of subscription-based models, one-time setup fees,
and potential value-added services. Supermarkets can subscribe
to the service on a monthly or annual basis, paying a recurring
fee based on factors such as the size of their operation and the
level of customization required. Additionally, one-time setup fees
may be charged to cover initial implementation and integration
costs, including on boarding staff, configuring the service to suit
the supermarket's specific needs, and providing training and
support.

EXECUTION PLAN

Our waste reduction solution for supermarkets is a comprehensive

platform that integrates advanced technologies to streamline
operations and minimize food waste. We utilize machine learning
(ML) for image recognition, enabling automated identification
and categorization of products. Coupled with Internet of Things
(IoT) devices, our system monitors environmental factors in real-
time to assess product condition and freshness accurately.
Additionally, ML and natural language processing (NLP) analyze
customer feedback, providing insights for targeted waste
reduction strategies. Blockchain technology ensures transparency
and traceability throughout the supply chain, further enhancing
efficiency and accountability.
