READ THE CONVERSATION: Would you like cookies with your coffee?
Would you like some rice?
I’d like the pepperoni pizza, please.
Server: Are you ready to order?
Mark: Yes, please. Answer these questions:
Allie: I’d like the tuna with a green salad.
Server: And for you, sir? 1.What does Allie order?
Mark: I’d like the steak, please.
Server: Would you like that with fries or salad?
Mark: Fries, please. 2.What does Mark order?
Server: OK. Anything to drink?
Allie: Just water, please. 3.What do they order to drink?
Mark: The same for me. Could I have some ice?
Server: Sure. Here you are!

We use could.. to ask someone to do something:


Could I have my bill, please?
Could I have some soda?
Could you take a message, please?
