DEFINITION
Finishing refers to the processes that convert
the woven or knitted cloth into a usable material
and more specifically to any process performed
before/after dyeing the yarn or fabric to improve
the look, performance, or hand feel of the textile
or clothing.
(Or)
In another way we can define, “Textile Finishing”
is the term for chemical and mechanical processes
used on textiles after they have been made”.
INTRODUCTION
Fabric after leaving the loom or knitting machine, is not
readily useable and it is called ‘grey cloth’.
At this stage, the grey cloth contains natural and added
impurities.
Thus, the grey fabric goes through a series of processes such
as wet processing and finishing.
It is possible carry finishing at different stages of textile
production.
Thus, a fibre, yarn, fabric or garment can be subjected to the
finishing process, though the most effective results can be
obtained at the fabric stage.
Finishing adds value to the product and makes it more
attractive, useful, and functional for the end-user.
It also improves surface feel, aesthetics.
