The Quartiles for
Grouped Data
QUARTILES

Quartiles divide the


distribution into four
equal parts.
In computing the quartiles of grouped data, the formula is used:
Qk=

Where:
Qk = the quartile being asked, k is 1 for Q1, 2 for Q2, and 3 for Q3 .
LB= lower boundary of the Qk class
= cumulative frequency of the class before the Qk class
f= frequency of the Q class
i = size of class interval
N = total frequency
Example 1.
Calculate the Q1, Q2, and Q3 of the Mathematics
test scores of 50 students.

Deciles are those values


that divide the total
frequency into 10 equal
parts.
