PECTORAL
REGION
PECTORALIS MAJOR
Largest muscle , fan shaped muscle
1. ORIGIN: 2nd to 6th rib - Clavicular head and
Sternocostal head.
2. INSERTION: Inserted by Bilaminar tendon
on the lateral lip of the bicipital groove
(intertubucal sulcus of humerus)
3. NERVE SUPPLY: Medial and lateral
pectoral nerves
4. ACTIONS: Adduction and medial rotation
of arm
PECTORALIS MINOR
Small triangular muscle
1. ORIGIN: 3rd to 5th ribs near the costochondral
junction
2. INSERTION: Medial border and upper
surface of the coracoid process (scapula)
3. NERVE SUPPLY: Medial and lateral pectoral
nerves
4. ACTIONS: Draws scapula forward
Depression of shoulder
Helps in forced inspiration
SUB-CLAVIUS MUSCLE
Small rounded muscle below the clavicle.
1. ORIGIN: First rib at the costochondral
junction
2. INSERTION: Subclavian groove in the
middle 1/3rd of clavicle.
3. NERVE SUPPLY: Subclavius nerve from
upper trunk of brachial plexus
4. ACTIONS: Steadies the clavicle during the
movements of the shoulder
SERRATUS ANTERIOR
Broad sheet of muscle
1. ORIGIN: Arises from 8 digitations from upper eight
ribs and from fascia covering intercostal muscles
2. INSERTION: Costal surface of scapula along its
medial border
3. NERVE SUPPLY: Serratus anterior nerve from brachial
plexus (C5-C7 )
4. ACTIONS:
Pulls the scapula forwards to protect the upper limb
Steadies the scapula during weight carrying
Helps in forced inspiration
CLAVIPECTORAL
FASCIA
Is a fibrous sheet situated deep to the clavicular
portion of pectoralis major
Fascia that fills the gap between the clavicle and
pectoralis minor muscle.
Extends from : Clavicle above to the axillary
fascia below
UPPER PART splits to enclose subclavius
muscle
POSTERIOR fused to investing layer of deep
cervical fascia & to axillary sheath
INFERIORLY splits to enclose pectoralis
minor
