FRACTION'S

(FRACTIOUS)
BASICS OF FRACTIONS!
• So basically what is meant by FRACTION? As we know fraction can be described in many different
types and ways.. But what is actually FRACTION?!
• Fraction represents a part of a whole or, more generally, any number of equal parts. And in formal way
we can describe it as, how many parts can be divided in a particular body/object.
• As an example:- one-half, three-eight or more formally a quarter!
• And, the number of equal parts being described is known as Numerator, and the total number of parts
is described as Denominator.
TYPES OF FRACTIONS
COMMON FRACTION

Common fractions can be classified as either proper or improper.

1-Proper Fractions- When the numerator and the denominator are both positive and the numerator should be less
than denominator!
Ex:- 2/3, 4/9 etc..
2-Improper Fraction- When the numerator and the denominator are also positive, but the numerator is greater
than the denominator vice versa!#
Ex:- 9/4, 7/3, etc.
WHAT IS RECIPROCAL OF A FRACTION?

When a fraction is reversed (or) when the numerators and the denominators switch upsides the revealed fraction is a
RECIPROCAL!

Ex:- the reciprocal of 3/7 is 7/3 and many more

The word reciprocal came from the Latin word “reciprocus” meaning “returning”. Hence, it returns its original value, if we
take the reciprocal of an inverted number.
MIXED FRACTIONS

• A mixed numeral (also called a mixed fraction[18] or mixed number) is a traditional denotation of the sum
of a non-zero integer and a proper fraction.

• the numerals denoting the integer part and the fractional part can be stated as 2 ¾ instead of
unambiguous notation 2+ ¾.
