inquiry to try to address issues and enhance their
own professional practices.

Action research conducts research and takes action

at the same time. It was first coined as a term in
1944 by MIT professor Kurt Lewin.
DEFINITION

• Action Research is a problem-solving approach that involves collaboration

between researchers and practitioners to identify, analyze, and address real-world
issues.
- Kurt Lewin
STAGES ACTION RESEARCH
BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT

• While I used to take attendance daily and write the number of presenters on the
blackboard.
• A pattern was noticed by me that the attendance dropped from 19-21 to 6-7 students on
average , especially on Friday; which was strange.
• On observation and enquiry it was discovered that the major proportion of the absentees
are of Muslim Religion,
• Due to lack of students attending the school, an education barrier was created.
• The challenge arised in the accommodating religious obligations without compromising the
educational standards or creating disparities in students achievements.
THE ABSENCE OF MUSLIM STUDENT ON
FRIDAYS HAVE MANY CHALLENGES

• 1 > Academic Disparities:

Missing classes regularly can lead to gaps in the learning, reduced academic
performance, and increased difficulty in keeping up with course work.
2 > Social Exclusion:
Regular absenteeism can result in feelings of isolation and marginalization
among Muslim students, affecting their social integration and overall school
experience.
THE ABSENCE OF MUSLIM STUDENT ON
FRIDAYS HAVE MANY CHALLENGES
CONTINUED…….

• 3 > Administrative Concerns:

Schools need to address absenting while respecting religious freedoms and complying with
educational polices and standards.
• 4 > Radicalization Concerns:
Radicalization refers to the process by which individuals come to adopt extreme political,
social, or religious ideals of aspirations that reject or undermine contemporary ideas and
expression of freedom of choice. In the contest of absenteeism among muslim students, there
is concern that unsupervised time away from school could explore students to radical
ideology either through certain community influences or online platforms. Understanding of
minimizing these risks is crucial for maintaining a safe and supportive school environment.

which occurs during mid day and often collides with school hours.

“ It might include family and relatives.”

• Lack of school Accommodation :

Schools may not provide sufficient accommodation or support for religion practices making it
challenging for students to balance their religious and academic commitments.

GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION OF EFFECT
CONCLUSION
Lllllntroduction : — This research aimed to improve Muslim student‘s attendance on
Friday for smooth educational process
• Summary of key finding :— Findings revealed a significant decrease in Muslim
student‘s attendance and increased participation of school in the support of educat
losLs of Muslim student and significant reduction in radical prllactices.
• Reflection on the process :— It was realized that this was a very sensitive but
important issue to be discussed. Since I was taking the survey of a particular group I
needed to explain that the main motive behind this survey was educational only. I
believe it was necessary and inevitable.
CONCLUSION
CONTINUED....

• Implication of the finding :—The results suggest that with a positive attitude of the
teachers, students and families the serious issues like radicalization or sensitive
religious concerns can be dealt with. (7-8 students increase in Friday’s attendance.)

• Recommendations :— Educators and administration should take a serious action on

such practices. It was noticed that the same problem was faced by a nearby school and
it is a common thing which needs to be addressed. Therefore research should be
conducted on a large scale to measure the impact of this issue.

• Closing statement :— In conclusion this action research highlights the increased

attendance of muslim students on Friday. By adopting possible measures and seeking
help from all (teachers, students and parents) the impact of the potential radicalization
was lessened fostering a healthy school environment.
