mag-aaral.
Bilang pagwawakas ng ulat, nilinaw at pinaliwanag ng
magkakaibigan ang kahalagahan ng mga batas. Ayon sa
kanila, ang mga batas ay nararapat sundin at gawin ng
mga mamamayan. Ito ay pinaiiral at sumasaklaw para sa
lahat sa buong bansa at walang sinuman ang hindi
kabilang. Ang mga batas ay tinutupad at hindi
sinusuway upang makamit ng lahat ang kaayusan,
kaligtasan at kapayapaan. Nagiwan ng isang tanong ang
tatlong tagapag-ulat, “Paano mo naipapamalas ang
pagsunod sa mga batas? Matagumpay na nakapag-ulat
ang mga magkakaibigan. Sila ay pinalakpakan ng lahat.
“Mahusay!”, wika ng kanilang guro.
Sagutan ang mga gabay na tanong.
Itala ito sa iyong kuwaderno o papel
upang mas malalim na mapag-isipan
ang tungkol sa tampok na aralin.
1. Anong pangunahing paksa ang naiulat sa klase
ng magkakaibigang mag-aaral?
2. Isa-isahin ang mga paksang naisabatas na
binanggit ng tatlong mag-aaral sa kuwento.

kaligtasan sa daan?

Inferring Meaning
of Borrowed
Words
When you infer, you listen
closely to someone and
guess at things which they
mean but haven't actually
said. It’s like guessing.
Many of our words are similar to those in
other European languages. This is partly
because languages borrow words from each
other, but also because many European
languages descended from the same
language. French and Spanish are very
closely related, and so are English and
German. Indeed the English language has
been influenced by lots of languages.
Today, let us talk about Inferring meaning of borrowed words
such as rendezvous, boondocks, ninja etc.

Borrowed word is a word adopted from one

language (the donor language) and
incorporated into another language without
translation. A loanword can also be called a
borrowing. The words simply come to be
used by a speech community that speaks a
different language from the one these words
originated in.
Here are few borrowed words used in sentences. Let’s
find out what each word means.
My friends Alma and Ana are in a
ballet class. I always watch their
3- hour ballet performance every
Saturday. They have a graceful
body movement.
The borrowed word is ballet.
Ballet is a French word which
means an artistic dance form
performed to music using precise
and highly formalized set steps
and gestures.

I’ve only got
about 20
minutes for
lunch, so I’ll just
stop at a cafe
for a quick
sandwich.
The borrowed word is cafe which is a French
word for “coffee,” but it’s also very similar to
other words related to coffee in many other
languages.
Usually, cafes do serve coffee. But if a place
only serves coffee (and not any food), then it’s
normally called a “coffee shop.” In English,
this is the name for a small, usually informal
restaurant. It often has small tables, and
sometimes there are also tables outside.
Paloma needed to buy
some Christmas
presents for her
friends, so she went
downtown to the new
shopping plaza to
check out some of the
stores that were
recently opened.
The English word 'plaza' was borrowed
from the Spanish word plaza which
means a 'square' or 'place. “Plaza” is
also used in the names of many
shopping malls, corporate building areas
or other large open areas. If you’re a
native Spanish speaker, notice that the
pronunciation in English has a vibrated
“z” sound, not a soft “s.”
