(1935-1945)
• Philippine Literature greatly flourished despite growing
threats of foreign imperialism.
• Education and mastery of the English language are given
importance by writers.
• The subjects of various literary works was commonly the
plight of the Filipino People.

Different Qualities of the
Period of Emergence
1. Writers consciously and purposefully try to create
national literature.
2. Writers had gained full control of the English
language.
3. Writers experimented with different literary
forms and techniques.
4. Three groups of writers emerged:
a. concerned with social consciousness
b. concerned with craftsmanship; and
c. determine to explore local color.
